scouk Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Quick one for for the guys who have coilovers.. I understand you can generally adjust the dampers and ride height of the springs.. Just how much can you adjust the ride height? Think I'm finding an excuse to get some.. I know adjusting the height is goign to screw up the geometry somewhat (which isn't ideal) but was thinking that it'd be damn handy to beable to raise the car up a wee bit for drivign in the snow, the roads are clear aroudn here but I work is located on an old fishing estate which means farm style roads for about a mile, which don't get cleared and build up a lump of snow in the middle of the road which the scoob scrapes along.. It would appear I have the lowest car at my work(just), and with warning of a few cm of snow arriving today I've a strange feeling it coudl be tricky getting out later today.. So was wondering.. just how much can the ride height be adjusted on coilovers (roughly) ?

ScoUk, you can adjust the ride height quite a bit, depending on the kit you buy, some have limited adjustment, but most have at least 100mm!! Mine i can drop so the tyres physically will not fit under the arches, all the way up to a silly height, that leaves maybe 7" between top of tyre and wheel arch!! Ride height isnt really the REASON to get coilovers, the real reason is adjustablitiy in spring, dampening and control!!
scouk Posted February 12, 2009 Author Posted February 12, 2009 Thanks for that! Ride height isnt really the REASON to get coilovers, the real reason is adjustablitiy in spring, dampening and control!! Yeah I know trying to make additional excuses.. Snow's on the mind just now

Althought he back seems to sit a bit high.. As I mentioned above obviously adjusting height by a few cm would totally mess up the geometry but any other himts/tips for makign such a change, please let me know.. Already starting to think about getting snow/gravel tyres and coilovers for next winter.. Both of which would help summer driving as I'd have less tyre wear and better balance on the coilovers.
scooby222 Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Al,whatever you need to justify it do it!! apparently once theyre on its a 10 minute job per corner to adjust the height. and the bc's that i have on are now being sold by awd instead of teins on a cost to quality comparison basis, which i think will help give a boost in confidence with them.
