scoob fae ork Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 This past while there has been alot of young lads turning up with Scoobs in orkney a 17 year old started with a 1995 WRX drove like an idiot smashed it then daddy bought him a 2004 STI with all the rally stickers and 330bhp. and another boy took home a 2004 STI this week. For the life of me i could not sus how they could insure them untill i found out tonight the boy that had the WRX had it insured as a 1.6 GL and the other boy had no insurance or tax as the police found out last night when they stopped him . I dont know how you guys feel but im not happy with this twits doing this as it gives us honest ones a bad name not to mention putting up our insurance i mean i could rant on for ages but i just wont for now
colzo Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Anyone driving without insurance, Tax or MOT anger me and there is no point banning them as they would still drive.
bobbyc Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 One of my pet hates, but with the price of cars falling theyr'e becoming more accessable to youngsters, I've been drivin scoobs since 96 & I know how much it costs to keep them top line & legal, I still don't know how so many young kids can afford them & good percentage must be un-insured My boy just past his test two days ago 17 yrs old it cost me £984 to put him as a named driver on a seven year old 1.2 punto
Joe G Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I noticed there was a few young scoob drivers when i had the car in Stromness in the summer!! As for insurance i was paying a grand third party for a 1ltr fiesta when i first passed my test
ryan_gwa Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 It pisses me off because I'm a younger driver paying through my nose because of them. I can only just get insured because I'm 21, when I tired last year I got turned down by pretty much every insurance company in the UK.
hosstheboss Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Cars should be confiscated and sold at auction and the money given to a deserving charity!!

I know how you feel mate am 27 now with 6 years NCB and i still pay thrue the nose for insurance and am sure its all to do with them but it seems to be when daddy buys them there cars they dont care about them like we do. There's a boy up here whos dad owns a car dealership and he about 23 or so now but since he was 17 he's had a . STI type UK, EVO 8 FQ 330. Evo 9 FQ 340, 350z Nismo, Litchfeild tuned spec C Scooby and about 20 others he smashed the evo 9 drunk so his dad bought him the spec C to make up for it . Also this is the kind of lad that will come up to you and brag how good his car is compared to yours.

Yeah I'm with you. I'm 22 and this year has been the first time I've actually been given a sensible quote on an Impreza. If you get caught without any insurance they car should be confiscated, no question about it
C_WRX Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Sure it's annoying being stopped but if the police think they see a 17 year old in a Scooby maybe a good thing to be mistaken now and then just to make sure they have insurance ! I couldn't dream of affording the insurance when I was young for this type of car and would have never spent all that money on a car not to insure it, don't get that. I was knocked off my ZX6R by an uninsured driver, who didn't live at the address given and who they couldn't find (yes he stopped and the police did attend but didn't do too well that day!) - the hassle and time it took getting all that sorted out !

I bet if the guy had a bald tyre or 2 he would of been hammered. When you put it like that with police stopping you for routien checks and so on you dont mind if they catch folk for real offences like insurance and tax and so on .

I know what you mean about word travelling fast on islands!!
Wagon_Mark Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Poor show on the lack of insurance etc.. out of order. I got my first turbo wagon when i was 19. the only way i could insure it was TPFT which i paid 2500 for. Quite gutted about that since i bought the car from halleys paid in full, and wrote it off on ice around a year later. Next up i got my current car WRX Hawkeye from halleys also, this time fullycomp insured (ofcourse after last time, learned my lesson) I Paid 1500 for that last year after just turning 21 and this year 1300 at 22. Not a cheap hobby at all. but you can see why they werent insured. They dont deserve to drive cars like these, i had to work my a*** right off to pay all this. Even now, what i pay out on my car is around the same price a month as my morgage!!
ryan_gwa Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 I basically went to the Falklands for 4 months to save cash for my Impreza (Finance/Loans = bad idea), so i would be devastated if some numpty plowed into the back of me un-insured! Wagon-mark - My insurance is like at the moment. But not quite as high.
scoob fae ork Posted January 9, 2009 Author Posted January 9, 2009 Iv paid insurance from the word go regardles of cost but i can understand why they do it due to the cost but i guess it all come down to running a car you can afford. But then paying your insurance must out way the risks even with the cost as if you hit someone or get cought you will end up far worse off wont you ?

Ha ha whats that boy like Gunner, Dowie (the boy with the gumball impreza) and me self used to follow each other around a fair bit and it was damn good fun

The car can be removed for no insurance or if you don't have a licence. It stays in the pound until you turn up at the police office with valid insurance. Think you have 2 weeks before it gets crushed.
