thewelsho Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Hi Everyone! As per usual, nothing is simple for me when doing stuff on the car. Got the subframes I need and they fit (not tried them with the seats though). Anyway, after taking out the front passenger seat, and disconnecting the big lead underneath (with great difficulty), the "AIRBAG" light was dispalyed on the dash. I can't understand that, as I can't see any airbags on the seat - but that is besides the point... HOW do I have to do to get the light out? Thanks JW

Thanks JW I am guessing that you have unplugged something from under the old seat and now fitted the new seat? There might be a sensor in the old seat that is somehow connected to the airbag system.

paul555sti Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Not fitted the new seat yet mate... the cable is jsut sitting on the floor - seat is in the kitchen LOL! That will be the reason the air bag light is on then. Was the seat belt fitting ( the bit you plug the seat belt into) attached to the side of the seat that was removed?

thewelsho Posted December 12, 2008 Author Posted December 12, 2008 Remove it and plug it back in. ha yeah, but doesn't that mean i will have seats with no seat belts? hmmm - ARGH!!!!!
paul555sti Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 ha yeah, but doesn't that mean i will have seats with no seat belts? hmmm - ARGH!!!!! Yes but if dont you will have a seat belt in the car with nothing to plug it into ?
thewelsho Posted December 12, 2008 Author Posted December 12, 2008 Yes but if dont you will have a seat belt in the car with nothing to plug it into ? Yeah. I'm assuming the bucket seats will have a bracket or something to fasten the clip onto? what have you done with your set up?
paul555sti Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Yeah. I'm assuming the bucket seats will have a bracket or something to fasten the clip onto? what have you done with your set up? I attached mines to the rear mounting bolt for the seat.
thewelsho Posted December 12, 2008 Author Posted December 12, 2008 yeah, but that renders the back seats as useless.
paul555sti Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 yeah, but that renders the back seats as useless. You have lost me now! There were four bolts holding my seat in place, two in the front and two in the rear. The one behind the seat that bolts in to the transmission tunnel ( beside the handbrake area ), i have used that one.
thewelsho Posted December 12, 2008 Author Posted December 12, 2008 i have used that one. to do what? hold the seat belt clip in place? you're not the only one whose confused mate
paul555sti Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 to do what? hold the seat belt clip in place? you're not the only one whose confused mate Yes to fit the seat and also the seat belt clip.
paul555sti Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Right, some late night garage pictures to try and clear this up. The metal work will be coming out over the winter to be painted.
thewelsho Posted December 12, 2008 Author Posted December 12, 2008 (edited) Gotcha! I was able to remove the belt clip from the seat, but because of the kinks in the bracket, it will not sit flush, so I'll have to try and bend it. But that doesn't solve my airbag issue. The lead that I detached, runs inside the rear of the chair, runs along the bottom and up the side into an airbag thing. So obviously I have to run without these, but what of the light? Will this fail my MOT? Edited December 12, 2008 by TheWelsho
paul555sti Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Well thats me out of ideas, i thought it would be connected to the seat belt clip like mines. Hopefully somebody with a new age will be along with some ideas. I helped my brother fit a steering wheel to his evo 6, his original one had an airbag and the new one did not. He had to get a resistor to fit across the old airbag connections to solve a similar problem.

craigdmcd Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Airbags aren't part of the MOT, John. If you struggle, or need the light put out (properly or otherwise), give me a shout.

The airbag light has come on as the front passenger seat has a pressure sensor in it, so the cars airbag system know if it has to deploy the passenger airbags during a crash. you will need to deactive the passenger warning system (not removing the bulb). see if there is a switch on the side of dash near the outside of the glovebox (when the door is open), there is normally a switch so you can switch off the passenger airbag when using a baby seat in the front. Ed.
jimser Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 Thanks mate Jimser might have a solution to the airbag issue since he fitted a steering wheel... that's if imported cars have airbags, do they? my car doesnt have airbags as standard john, had the same issue as your having with my wrx when i put spec c seats in it though, the wrx has airbags in the standard seats
