rallyfever Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 (edited) Hi All, Looking for new tyres for the Scoob, want something that gives a good bit grip and have been quoted £138 each including VAT for Toyo 225/40/18 R888's - what do you reckon for the tyre and the price? Cheers Gary Edited December 1, 2008 by rallyfever
craigdmcd Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Very nice tyre, seems a very good price, but completely wrong at this time of year.
Guest CRAIG D Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Very nice tyre, seems a very good price, but completely wrong at this time of year. Whats the fun in having the right tyres ???
rallyfever Posted December 1, 2008 Author Posted December 1, 2008 Hi Craig, I must admit to having something a wee bit more extreme on the car just now - Hankook soft slicks!!! You think Toyo R888's are wrong for this time of the year - they will be like snow tyres compared to the Hankooks!!! Cheers Gary
gambler Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 I just bought a new set of 888's in the summer. They now come with a warning that the tyres must not even be stored below 0c and deff not driven. Something to do with the compound as they may crack if they freeze. They are also pants in the cold. Esp if its wet as you just cant get any temp into them. They were a good laugh on a wet cold track but not for the road
scooby222 Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 this time of year wouldnt go past eagle f1's on a scoob, havent tried michelin pilot sports though
paul555sti Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Gary try camskill i have been told they are hard on beat on prices. http://www.camskill.co.uk/
rallyfever Posted December 4, 2008 Author Posted December 4, 2008 Hi Paul, It was them I got the price of fella - and I agree that they look hard to beat. £138 including VAT and delivery per tyre is a steal in my book. I was quoted over £180 each around 6 months ago for these babies!!! Cheers Gary
RA Dunk Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 i have a set of R888`s on mine right now and looking to get them off ASAP, these tyres do not like the cold!!
rallyfever Posted December 4, 2008 Author Posted December 4, 2008 What do I do chappies???? - need tyres soon and although I am agreeing with the comments on the slightly slippy rubber - I have fully blown slicks on it just now and the rallying has taught me how to handle this - just don't go daft in other words in the wet on ice!!! I only use the car at the weekend and don't really know the last time it was out when it was icy or really wet. Cheers Gary
mystery machine Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 £138 including VAT and delivery per tyre is a steal in my book. I was quoted over £180 each around 6 months ago for these babies!!! By the sounds of it they wouldn't be the easiest tyre to shift during winter, hence the discount. Good time to buy four to store for spring, perhaps...
rallyfever Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 Now there is some sound advice - gonna put the order in just now and get them on the baby for the next dry weekend day
mystery machine Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 the next dry weekend day That day can't arrive too soon
rallyfever Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 Mind you if it is a wee tad wet it may make for some interesting driving - wow where did that back end come from!!!!
mystery machine Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 Aye, I reckon it would be interesting enough to make my 'back end' go
sma01 Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 my mate had them on his p1 and said they were pretty good, i paid £140 a corner fitted for a set of AO48 yokohamas, got them from the guy that goes up with the lorry to KH, they are similar to the 888s but a bit harder wearing....... scott
