All the lights on my Kenwood unit have gone out and its a real pain trying to change cd's / channels etc when I'm  and its dark  Since everythings working ok I suspect its probably just a fuse / bulb although it's going to be like rocket science trying to understand how to fix it as I'm not one of the worlds most technically gifted :driving::banana2: Perhaps its time for a new unit  although shame to have to shell out money to replace a unit thats still working

Could it just be the illumination wire come out at the back?

Didn't realise there was such a thing  which would explain why the units still working as normal but without any illumination. I must admit I did wonder if it was something other than 'a bulb' as I couldn't imagine one bulb lighting all the display, graphics etc :driving::banana2: Presume I need to take the unit out, or should I be able to get to it from behind the centre console? Told you I wasn't the sharpest one on the block when it came down to technical stuff

does the front panel come off or flip down? ifso undo it then reconnect it, or slightly push front panel into unit, sometimes they dont connect, or if front comes off & you can see the connectors give them a wipe then try again ;)

We can't all save lives Baser

I don't Hugh - I've got a logistics role in the control room - couldn't cope with bandages and plasters :driving: Furthermore I'm afraid I couldn't curb my enthusiasm at kicking some pisshead who'd called for an ambulance 'after eating something a bit dodgy'. Obviously his kebab didn't mix with his 10 pints, equal amounts of breezers and weed he'd been smoking. . . . that'll be Friday night in London then! We even have specifically assigned 'booze buses' set up now to cope with these sorts and to save ambulances being used and abused.

ps just updated Luxembourg thread

But if you weren't there the teams wouldn't go to the respective scenes.

Every part of our body is no good with out the surport of all the rest.

That wire is normally just to dim the lights on the headunit when the lights are switched on

Its the flip-down one, model KRC-778R. Front doesn't want to move and got no removal keys as it was in the car when I bought it, so might just have to try and run up the audio shop in Welling and let them have a quick look. I'm not a great hi-fi anorak like some on here so the unit's always been good enough for my needs and I've liked the fact that its flip-down rather than a front removal. It's just so bloody annoying trying to operate it in the dark :D

Through the wireless or cat whisker away and just listen to flat four boxster. It's the only sound track needed.

Popped into the local audio shop today and been told its an internal wire/loop that often goes on the mask-type units -quoted £70 plus vat , which is cheaper than replacing entire unit

I seem to have had 2 Kenwood units do this.

My current automatic flip down unit in my Scoob has just lost its lights - and the buttons dont work. Which means I cant put play CD's and for the past week im stuck listening to Capital radio at a certain volume, regardless whether there is a signal or not. Cant afford a £70 repair or buying a new one at the moment so I might resort to putting the original unit back in.

I would be interested in the details of the fault/repair as I may have a go doing it myself

Thats whats so annoying on mine - everything still works - just can't see it ;)

Gather the guy is going to take the unit out and run it down the road to have the wire/loop sorted rather than do it on site - seems its a common problem on these units. Will let you know what they do in case its simply a diy soldering job This was the cheapest option - if I bought a new unit it would have to be compatible with the cd interchanger in the boot and this was when the cost started going up
