Engine Light Advice?

Ok so im still new to my scoob. Driving back from woodman today past blueawater and pepper hill, sat comfortably at 50-60mph through speed restrictions just slowly cruising along, engine by this stage well warmed up.

I got to higham junction where it opens up and speed restrictions are lifted, cleared windscreen and washer fluid ran out, in fourth gear from 55-85/90 engine warning light blinked about 6-7 times when accelerating then stopped. at first i thought it was warning light for no screen wash. but after third flash backd of speed.

I know my mates audi will flash up when any fluis level is low... I assume the impreza doesnt do this? having cheked the manual, all it says is "emmissions fault" take it to dealer asap.

Am i likely to have a fault, or is it just subaru covering there ass??

I am going to hazard a guess that you run the car on normal unleaded 95 octane, if this is so run the car on super if you can and this fault should go away.

And no the ecu will not flash a check engine light if your screen wash is low :rotfl:

Yeah im running on noramal unleaded but have done 4 tanks since i had it, never seen the light, and previous owner ran it on the same fuel for 8 months the same.

I will give anything a try, just wanted to find out if it was a "serious" issue or just a warning light, if its gone out then issue has "gone"

If it's remapped as you said today then it's 99% certain that it's been mapped for super unleaded and probaby shell v power

I have known of this fault on a bugeyed> scoob when running on 95 octane fuel especially if you get a bad batch, I would recommend that for the safe running of your scoob especially if you drive it on boost alot that you run on at the very least 98 octane and preferably v-power 99 octane, I would bet that you have had a bad tank of fuel which has caused this fault, try also to use fuel from busy petrol stations as they get fresh fuel more often than back street filling stations.

another reason, it could be your knock censor?

mine lights up now & then, but when on long runs & hot, never comes on, its mainly when its cold & first start up after being left for a few days, but the car runs fine :rotfl:

It would be worth getting your knock sensor cleaned up or replaced mate it should not be flashing up on start up atal, if you have corrosion between the sensor and the block it will give false readings also if it is loose, either way I would look into it.

cheers for the advice :rotfl: i think i need to get it on the rollers to really see what power its running and if it has been remapped.

will see how it runs over next few days as well, and keep an eager eye on it

Get some v-power in it and you will be fine

Silly question .... but if i run on V power , and drive the same... will i see any change in fuel consupmtion. more or less mpg? or will it still remain the same but just drive better?

Chances are that you will notice an improvement in performance therefor drive it harder more thus getting lower mpg :rotfl: Just kidding under normal driving conditions you should see smoother power delivery and better open road mpg eg on the motorway but this will be marginal.

i shall be doing the same, can feel a trip to surrey R&R coming on, now that work should be slowing down for xmas i might get some time on the car. I also run 95 Octane fuel, as the wife drives it most of the time, can't see the advatage as she rarely uses the power. Although i DO notice that it hesitates sometimes, but this could be down to plugs as the recent ones fitted were NGK3500, and not sure if they are the best ones for the car

had all code scanned this afternoon, nothing coming up and no faults pending, so was just a blip, more than likely to cold and extreme wet

Next door in big M's my mate has a big plug in scanner, no ideas on its make, but he is regualrly using it on cars in there. and uses it on his mates scoobys and his skyline. so it must be doing somthing right.
