Guest Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Hello I am currently changing my exhaust to 3" to whole way through. I will have a decat pipe fitted for most of the time but come MOT time i will need to refit my cat. Which is a problem as it has a 2.5" thickness and the wrong type of flange. I am looking to get my catted down pipe converted to 3" flat face flange so fitting it for the MOT will be easy. Has anybody had this done? I am looking for a fabricator doesnot realy matter where they are just that they do a good job. Suggestions welcome
neill54 Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 just find a decat friendly mot station!! neil

The Joys of living in Alyth... nothing is on your doorstep.. Ask Andy or Grant down at AWD what he does to get a car through an MOT. I'm sure he puts a centre section CAT on to pass the MOT. Worth asking....
neill54 Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 best bet is to find a local exhaust manufacturer show them what you want it wont be a problem all youll need is the flange piece cut off the small one on the cat and replace with larger one neil

May have a word with the boys at AWD see what they can do. I believe fitting the centre cat does not work as it does not get hot enough and therefore does not work properly i may be wrong though it wouldn't be the first time and won't be the last

Guest Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Shell Garage in Blair per chance I'm sure i've seen the car there sometimes, I'm in every week to fill up the Volvo... There is a good chance u have seen me there as thats where i usually put fuel in. I have managed to get my addiction down to 1 tank a week now though so not therethat often. A Volvo u got the dog guard and 2 labs in the back aswell?
thefastone Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Well if you are goign to the extent that you are going to get the bit fabricated, then why not just get a 3" sports cat? to suit the exsisting 3" pipework... I'm sure that its not going to be that much more expensive, and to be honest, the 3" system is not really worth having if you are running the 2.5" downpipe... I may be wrong there... but I'm fairly certain that thats the case...?

No i will be running a 3" de-cat all the time just want the catted down pipe altered for re-fitting for MOT time
thefastone Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Ah gotcha, my bad! One thing though that I am curious about, is if your car is mapped, what effect would this have on your engine? ie: would it cause running problems with the extra back pressure in the exhaust system... Could this then affect your emmissions...? I dont know, just curious...

The car is not currently mapped although it will be going to get mapped next month once i fit the new turbo,FMIC and fuel pump fitted to get get the most out of the mods. I will ask Andy during mapping to see what he thinks.
