monkip1 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 PM's are private/personal messages.............you have to be some sad kid to read them...............invasion of privacy, that really really PI**es me off.....sounds like being at school on that site then........loads of grasses on there..just what you need on a forum.. Maybe a newage SN?
kevlorn Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Yeh and JD being acoused of cohursing me to post on there. pmsl, Think some people have inferiority complex my self pmsl. But going in to peoples pm box's and reading there mail just to get dirt on them - thats sick, If I found out any moderator done that here to work it to there advantage, Ill kick off and revoke any membership I had and close my account due to invasion of privacy. is that all ben..........................its like someone reading your emails,or looking at your bank account details.............would you not want to have a private chat with them face to face............i certainly would, and there wouldnt be much talking lol lol lol lol
monkip1 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Oh sorry, I wasnt thinking 4th dimensionally, I was just compairing it to how I would feel if it happened to me on a forum.
kevlorn Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Oh sorry, I wasnt thinking 4th dimensionally, I was just compairing it to how I would feel if it happened to me on a forum. lol lol privacy mate...........doesnt matter when/where or how...
andy Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Strangely enough I was talking about this very subject with Frenchy last night. Not because of stuff in here, but the saga that was ongoing in Kent Scoobies! Apart from the fact I don't know how to (that's the truth, BTW) and have no desire to, I couldn't do it from an ethical standpoint any more than I could turn up at your house and open your mail. As far as I'm concerned, Personal Message means exactly that - PERSONAL. It's clear abuse of position and privilege to snoop into another person's private messages.

Glad you agree Andy, I would have done the hands down icon like on crappy net but we dont have one, so i gave you a thumbs up instead This forum isnt a cheap one then? As some forums iv been the pleasure of runnning (Clan gaming ect) has had like a overal mod control setting's where you can view peoples accounts and setting ect (Maybe play the odd practical joke). But iirc iv never had a facility to view peoples PM's. Must be a forum add on script like what some of these free forums like php bb2 or Smf can run. - Unless some one ratteled out and cut and pasted th epm to a moderator? Even then that can be altered lol. monki. Edited August 7, 2008 by MonkiP1
scooby princess Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 would you not want to have a private chat with them face to face............i certainly would, and there wouldnt be much talking lol lol lol lol Funny you should say that, i have been holding one person back from a member of theirs for 2 years now after aligations where made - at a club meet in front of other members - That i faked my Epileptic Fit back in 2006! but i will not allow that person to lower themselves to others standards. Strangely enough I was talking about this very subject with Frenchy last night. I have and always will trust this site and the moderators. We may have the little quibbles over POST WHORES! and other things but we work on them and i believe we deal with them in a sensible way but i had this discussion with Phil some time ago and i was reassured by what he said as i am now with Andi's reply. I would not be a Regional Organiser for a club who believes in disrespectful behaviour towards their members thats why i have stood by through abusive language and jestures from so called friends and club members and held my tongue for so long about the hell i was put through from another club to support the club who is truthful and im proud to say it has always been this club - S.I.D.C.
kevlorn Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 well said sp....................we dont swear much...
monkip1 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Fair play to you SP. You have allways treated us with respect and i hope you feel the same way about us. Yes we have our friendly banter but it never goes above board. I feel between SIDC and P1woc they have been the two most reliable, helpful, friendly, car clubs I have been proud to be accociated with. Over the last year and 5months there have been members here who have helped me, guided me, advised me on things to do with cars and my personnal life. I feel i have made some good life friends.
andy Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 This forum isnt a cheap one then? As some forums iv been the pleasure of runnning (Clan gaming ect) has had like a overal mod control setting's where you can view peoples accounts and setting ect (Maybe play the odd practical joke). But iirc iv never had a facility to view peoples PM's. Must be a forum add on script like what some of these free forums like php bb2 or Smf can run. - Unless some one ratteled out and cut and pasted th epm to a moderator? Even then that can be altered lol. Not expensive, but not free. It was about $80 (I think) and we pay $50 a year for support and upgrades. I've been running this forum software for 5 years plus now and over the years must have been into every single option in the Admin panel. There is not a way in there to view another user's PM's. You're even limited as to what you can edit in a users profile. All I've ever had cause to edit are Sigs - mostly to remove spam links or excessively long ones or inapprpriate avatars - mostly featuring nakkid women! I couldn't even log in as another user and read PM's that way as passwords are stored encrypted with no way of decrypting them. I daresay it would be possible if I were to drop out and access the database direct, but I wouldn't know where to look for them and, as I say have no desire to. If your PM's are anything like my PM's they're all a load of bollocks anyway! Oh - and if I can't do it, you can guarantee none of the other Admins on here can either. Phil is a total technophobe for starters!
monkip1 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Well being honest Andy I wish the Internet had better encription for viewing web pages than SIDC. Its funny how WEP isnt secure at all in a wireless environment! But then thats going off at a tangent and another storie lol.
kevlorn Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 well if you cant do it,how the fck can a machanic do it......
scooby princess Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Fair play to you SP. You have allways treated us with respect and i hope you feel the same way about us. Yes we have our friendly banter but it never goes above board. Thank you Ben - I am the first to admit that i talk for england and and can be quite cheeky at times but as you say its all friendly banter and i know you guys and i play as well - this club stands by its ethos - FUN AND FRIENDSHIP - Never have i felt any disrespect from ANY member of the SIDC club SINCE it broke away - before that i would not like to write what i felt and still do feel about some ex memebers as a sidc member i will not lower my standards
monkip1 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 well if you cant do it,how the fck can a machanic do it...... Next he be saying he can map a car using a gameboy advance and pokemon
andy Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 well if you cant do it,how the fck can a machanic do it...... Much like your car, there are hundreds of Mods available for all the popular Forum packages. They're written by third parties and are usually free. See the Garage up the top of the SIDC Forums? That's a Mod written by a third party designed to plug into the Forums. That's a good Mod Mods that allow you to abuse your position are bad Mods, IMO A quick Google for "VBulletin Read Personal Messages" and hey presto... http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=123166 (We don't use VBulletin, BTW. We use Invision Powerboard)
jd Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 well if you cant do it,how the fck can a machanic do it...... a what?????? if he was that good, why isnt he more successful and has a garage to build the engines as oppossed to the kitchen floor.
kevlorn Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 i am now banned from both clubs pmsl...what a joke...they cant handle the truth,,and i/we have evidence................................how shoddy were they lol lol
andy Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Guys, I've given you my position and opinions as the Administrator of this website regarding the reading of other people's Personal Messages and also some technical info on how it is or is not possible. That was done mostly to reassure you that the Administrators of the SIDC would never take part in practices like that. However, we've got the McRae Gathering coming up, which I am also involved in, where we want the entire Subaru community to forget their past or current differences and come together, united just once, for one sole purpose - to celebrate the life of Colin McRae. We really don't want any antagonism or fallouts either at the event or in the lead up to it. It's not what Colin would want, it's not what his family would want, it's not what Prodrive want and it's not what we want. Once the event is over, by all means go for it if you really feel it necessary. However, I don't think you need to. Personally, I'd say rise above any bait laid down and continue the way you have been - a post-whoring (!!), yet friendly and welcoming asset to the SIDC.
kevlorn Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 i agree...colin mcrae gathering is a special event altogether, nothing will ruin this what so ever, R.I.P mcrae
