luke_clifton Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Hello, what do you think of this engine? seems like a great starting point (providing nothing is warped) for a big bhp conversion. Quite cheap at the moment too. Ebay item no: 250264908244
granby Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Closed deck block always a good starting point, bet the price goes up quite a bit
pistonbroke2 Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 Cancel that, I take it its where they've filled in what used to be the water jacket to stop the bore moving under heavy boost.

yogi- Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 (edited) How do they achieve that, how is it done, considering that the water jacket is retained. Edited July 5, 2008 by yogi-
dazzlers82 Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 its done at the factory bye a different machine i would have thought but im sure there is companys that do this
Jolly Green Monster Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 have run a semi closed deck block from an sti5 at 504bhp and it was used for racing in Time Attack and nurdburgring and lasted wihtout issue for 3 seasons and is not in another car etc.. unless you intend going beyond 500 then stick with the block you have already... yes the closed deck block is stronger but it is not essential at fairly reasonable power levels. spend the saved cash on rods.. pistonbroke2 Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 Was browsing pistonheads last night, in the parts sections there are a few scooby engines, some of which are guaranteed and fully reconditioned. Have a gander mate, you may see something that fits the bill.
eureka Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Closed deck block always a good starting point, bet the price goes up quite a bit in my experience start with your gearbox mate lol
