Hi, well as many of you know, my engine had been making a knocking type noise intermittantly. Ever since the BHP show, the car has only made this noise about 3 times (nothing recently though). In fact, just recently the car has been running suberb, not missed a beat, engines been very quiet too except the dreaded uppipe leak.

I've been saying for ages now that i want to put a new engine into the car, but the way this ones currently running, i'm not so sure.

Should i continue with a 2.5 upgrade, or concentrate on updating the exterior (face lift).

Thanks alot.

It would be the 2.5 conversion for me.

If you do the engine conversion dont forget to budget for :

bigger turbo

bigger injectors

remap

gearbox and clutch

fuel pump

not just the block to think about when you do it to a classic as Dazzlers will tell you :D

Personally i would go for the engine upgrade as i think your car looks great as it is, but as Pele has said you would have to budget for the other bits and pieces

Thanks for the reply's, I've wanted a carbon fibre boot & bonnet with pearl white paint for such a long time though. Maybe i should start buying lottery tickets for this lot lol.

My plans were to buy a 2.5 engine, a ecu, but have it mapped to very low boost until i could afford bigger injectors, pump, turbo, ic, ect.

I have been keeping an eye on ebay for any good deals on 2.5sti lumps. Did anyone see that thread in the for sale section.... 2.5 roger clark bottom end for £500 (sold now though) :hyper::hyper::D .

I do want to have the white air brushed into the carbon... like a gradient white-carbon fade.

Go for the 2.5 mate, cosworth make a smart one, im thinking of getting myself..... :hyper:

I thought of a 2.5, but im going to do a rebuild of my own 2.0 litre, lateral performance do a 2.1 kit for the 2 litre with all forged bits and race bearings, i'm just waiting for them to come back to me, its a cheaper way of getting a strong bottom end, and you get the satisfaction of doing it yourself.

Like everyone else has said, go for the engine upgrade.

Still, its quite odd that you're getting random knocking noises. I'd have to know exactly what it is before I commited to anything.
