gina_winder Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 Could i just plead ignorance and get a jap one and insure that as a 2000 Turbo?
Aruffell Posted April 11, 2008 Author Posted April 11, 2008 Been told by my cousin who had a dark blue scooby and now has a skyline, some people on here mite know him. Dean from the Isle of Sheppey? He said that a lot of Imports on the log book just state that it is a Subaru Impreza and doesn't mention Turbo or anything, so you can insure it as a GL? Sound about right? Andy

Not sure about the log book saying any thing, it's just cos it's an import before I brought mine and was look at insurance it jumped up £100 on the same spec just as a UK one.
Aruffell Posted April 11, 2008 Author Posted April 11, 2008 What does it normally say on the log book of an import? Does it list WRX or Turbo? Andy

Jamessti Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 Hello and welcome to the mad house I think all jap imports are group 20 doesn't matter whether its a 1.6GL, WRX or STI. Have you tried greenlight or Adrian Flux, I they think they might be able to help.
luke_clifton Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 (edited) Mine states in the additional info. Decalared manufactured in 1995, used overseas. Edit: just checked and it reads as stated in the special notes: "Was registered/used overseas, declared manufactured 1995" Your insurance would be void if you were to insure as a 2000 uk model. emmo Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 The other thing worth adding is that a Turbo 2000 car is still highly modifiable (is that a word?? it is now! ) Mine was a standard Turbo 2000 but its now kicking far more power than nature intended and the Kent Battenburgs like My point being, get yourself a turbo car. Give it a couple of years, save up some of cash along with what you'll save on the insurance and start modding!

Andy I suspect that when you give the insurers your registration it might come up on their screens as an import? If you plead ignorance and then get the car nicked or damaged - albeit by you or someone else - the insurers won't pay you

Garth W Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 Hi Andy welcome to the nuthouse! i used to have a mk5 escort rs2000 now ive got a '92 impreza wrx jap import, im 24 with 6 years ncb and i pay £1200 fully comp with sureterm direct, its not easy getting insurance on these great cars but its worth it!!! the uk turbo cars are still great and arnt slow by any means! one of the guys called col 2 has a uk car and its got the prodrive tuning package on it (ppp) and its running around 270bhp, more than a match for a jap import wrx and uk cars are easier to get parts for! good luck finding a scooby andy hope our advice will help you, looking forward to seeing you at one of the meets.

Montythegod Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 (edited) Stick with the uk Turbo 2000 and being uk spec insurance companies gave a better discount... I bought mine standard and found insurance was 20% cheaper...... Its not standard now tho and hopefully running in the region of 340bhp you may have seen me about ! <<<<<< WELCOME ! baser999 Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 The basic UK Turbo is surely going to give around 215bhp as standard which would be well above most of the other cars your mates are driving Andy, with the extra benefit of 4wd - why price yourself out of a Scooby by buying an import that albeit will have that bit of extra bhp but be much more difficult if not impossible to insure, as you're finding out. I bought my00 classic in 2005, never having driven a 'performance' car before and the additional bhp over my Scorpio was indeed very noticeable. I kept it basic for about 18mths before having it remapped. I can't really offer any further advice on your insurance, being more in your dads age-group and having been driving for years with full ncb. I still pay £500 despite all that!
