Ebc Brake Discs

A quick question for those in the know.

Are EBC grooved and slotted brakes discs (combined with the red or yellow stuff brake pads) considered a good upgrade to the standard Subaru brake discs and pads?

My car is pretty much standard at the moment 2004 WRX Blobeye but in the future a full decat exhaust and remap is on the cards. That will probably satisfy my perfomance upgrades.

More power requires better brakes , right.

So will the EBC discs and pads mated with the standard callipers do the job?

Other suggestions will be taken into consideration.

Thanks,

Stu.

Stu, i'd rather stick to the OE discs and then upgrade to better pads..Some might say the red stuff pads are reaonable but i think the discs are pretty pants and warp fairly easy.

Just my opinion though :(

Have a 2004 WRX myself, was last August changed the front discs & pads. Asked the same question on here and to ASPerformance. Same reply from all. If it is for road use with type of power upgrade you're looking at doing then will be fine with OE discs and upgrade the pads. I went with Pagid RS421's which have been fine (huge difference first time pressed the brake pedal), but there are other types available that are much same price and as good. Think was advised not to go for red and/or yellow pads but not 100% sure about that.

I went through all of this a while ago when I was looking at more power and the father-in-law mentioned I would be needing new discs and pads soon at last MOT.

Yellow stuff I believe is EBC's track day pad and can take a fair bit of heat before they start to work to any great level so for a daily driver can be a bit of an issue. The Red stuff seemed to get a bit of a slating on older posts but then EBC came up with the Red Stuff Ceramic which has more lovers now than haters and also seems to be kinder on the discs.

The EBC Turbo Groove Discs (Grooved and dimpled) were a mixed bag of reviews, some thought they were fantastic whilst others hated them - warped within days, pads chewed them up and so on.

In the end I opted for the Prodrive 330mm front upgrade and got EBC Turbo Groove discs for the rear and Ferodo DS2500 pads (which I believe is what comes with the Prodrive upgrade), braided hoses all round and have absolutely no complaints whatsoever with the EBC discs (or the rest of the gear for that matter) other than the amount of brake dust generated by the Prodrives!!! :(

Not tried the discs but i certainly liked the yellowstuff pads, worked well on track and good on the road too. Although they were too aggressive for my oe discs and they ended up with cracks all over them.

I had redstuff pads before them and although they were ok on the road they were crap on track and only lasted 4 months

Good replies people.

I think I will 'put the brakes on' purchasing EBC stuff then.

It was just that the opportunity had came up to purchase a set of EBC front discs at a bargain price. So I thought I had better find out a bit more about them before committing.

I will now revert to my initial recommendation from another SIDC member (Irish Al), which has been reinstated here, thats to keep the OE discs and upgrade to the likes of Ferodo DS2500 pads.

Thanks again, :(
