Rebuilding Engines

One of the reasons I am hesitant about getting back in to the land of scoobies is the engine problems. I bought a P1 all those years ago mainly because it was a UK car, with a warranty. I fancy another Impreza again and it has to be a classic. The thing that worries me is when the engine lets go, who are the best guys to rebuild it to a higher spec? (better pistons, crank, etc.) And how much will it cost?

Cheers.

The cost of an engine rebuild will be entirely dependent on the parts chosen!

new block?

new pistons?

new rods?

gaskets?

porting and polishing of heads?

injectors?

Good parts are not cheap.

I assumed the block would be reusable. I am thinking about a 96 sti ra. Is the block in them ok?

IIRC they are the last of the closed deck blocks in the RA`s, i could be mistaking though

I just £2300 for my re-build. That's on an MY06 with one damaged piston. The block was of course re-usable and the pistons were £500. These are Wossner forged pistons. While that was getting done, the decision was taken to uprate a few other things as well, namely big-end shells, oil pump, new timing belt and other stuff that I can't remember! The car was re-built by Hypertech and I'd recommend them. Duncan knows Impreza engines inside out as he has rebuilt quite a few in his time.
