UK300_loon Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Hi all, any ideas on what could be causing my dodgy steering? feels like I'm running with two front punctures! experiencing some kick back through wheel at slow/manouvering speeds with some lock applied vagueness/slow response from wheel at medium speeds very light at higher speeds and wanting to wonder around the road, tramlining more than usual. I've checked the obvious such as tyre pressures, wheels being tight on hub, wheel nuts tightened, had recent tyres all round, no suspension components flapping in the wind etc. does this sound like a failing power steering pump to anyone? Any help will be much appreciated. cheers Alan
thefastone Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Have you done anything to the car? different wheels suspension bits or strut braces etc?
the blue dragon Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 I have been experiencing similair symptons altho not exactly the same and i have found that the o/s/f track rod end is on its way out. Dont kmow if this is a possibility on yours mate? Iain
UK300_loon Posted January 16, 2008 Author Posted January 16, 2008 cheers for your thoughts, fitted a front upper strut brace a couple of weeks ago, was really surprised at how big a difference it made. Maybe this has stressed other components? car's running the standard 18's on brand new 225/40-18 Goodyear F1's. Uprated rear drop links. standard shocks/springs. Had the allignment/tracking checked yesterday for peace of mind, was due a check anyway but everything was fine. I've got some play in my nearside front droplink, but very little, and don't think it would cause something this dramatic. no rattling/knocks and symptoms seem to be evenly balanced from left to right. ?????
AlanG Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Check the fluid level for the power steering and if okay, check the belt tension. Should just be able to turn belt 90 degrees on the longest section of the belt
UK300_loon Posted January 16, 2008 Author Posted January 16, 2008 just had a wee look, fluid levels are fine and belt tension seems ok anyway. cheers
RA Dunk Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 take it to MH engineering in banchory and get your tracking done properly, other than that fook knows :-)

Its like I'm experiencing sattelite delay on my steering! car's booked into AWD now, so they'll get to the bottom of it I'm sure.
RA Dunk Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 if its handling problems you have MH engineering would be my choice, they come recommended from one of the guys on here who hill climbs every other week
UK300_loon Posted January 16, 2008 Author Posted January 16, 2008 think I'll give them a try in the mean time then as i'm not down in Perth till next weekend, sounds reasuring them being motorsport orientated an' all. cheers for that.
