What a load of b*******

You only need to call the police if someone was injured (which i assume no one was), if it was a damage only then 99% of the time the police won't turn up anyway

Hi m8 sorry to hear about your car, i know how it feels to have your car hit by a d**khead ;) i think the police r well out of order by not helping u out, after all they can use the reg of that car 2 track them down from the vehicle database. Wherabouts did this happen if u dont mind me asking? dont worry m8 you'll get it sorted out soon ;)

What about doing a hpi check on the vehicle.I'm not sure of the sort of imfo they give you but i started a check before you have to pay up.make/ vauxhall. year of manufacture/ 1998.make/ astra cdx 16v auto. size cc 1796.As i say i'm not sure whether they give current registed keeper's name but someone out there will know hope it helps.

Hi mate,

I assume that it's your insurance company who have told you his details were false & the vehicle uninsured? If so they presumably have a mechanism for flagging the incident into DVLA etc. It might be worth going back down to your police station and explaining again (bound to be a different person) and asking advice - you ought to also ask them whether your problem will lead to the vehicle being flagged in some way to increase the chance of it being ANPR spotted and indicating that he tells porkies so shouldn't be trusted to give correct details if they do tug him? Be really nice and play a mixture of helpless victim and fine upstanding citizen!!

DVLA records seem to confirm the HPI stuff, but it is taxed for another 10 weeks. At least S 830 MMO does show as a Silver Vauxhall Astra - thats S830MMO for any search engines in the future :D

http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk/EvlPortal...?SKIN=directgov

It used to be possible to obtain details of registered keeper (name & address) from DVLA for just such legitimate situations this (pursuing damages from an accident - not him about to fall down the stairs ;) -

I suggest giving DVLA a call on 0870 240 0010, even if things have been tightened up due to all the identity theft problems - you should be able to get them to note their system to show that the scrote was involved in RTC and gave false details. They might then be concerned that he'll not pay them in April?

It might even be worth giving a bell to your local Citizens Advice Bureau - they have all sorts of helpful information and are bound to have come across this problem before.

The Royal Mail page has a postcode / address checker http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm which gives this :-

21 Swingate Lane

LONDON

SE18 2DA

If that matches the postcode the dude gave you, then it's pretty certain that he has some links to that address - anyone can make up an address, but you don't know the postcode without having some sort of link with the place! If you're fairly local why not take a drive around there in the wee hours when most folk are parked up at home or nearby? If the are looks ok, then visiting the address and explaining to the occupants that their address was used by this scrote may get you somewhere too - make it look like you're doing them the favour by letting them know and they might mention it happening before or even say it's that little git from round the corner ....

http://www.houseprices.co.uk/e.php?q=SE18+2DA&n=100 shows no recorded house sales for number 21

Take a look at http://www.aboutmyplace.co.uk - give it the postcode, go for birds eye view, zoom in and then try all 4 compass points - you might just spot a silver astra on the streets nearby (my eyes are too old to cope with that).

Might be worth posting up any other personal details he gave, plus searching the net for his name etc just in case someone else had a similar run-in with him. Also by getting all his docs posted up on this forum & then it will get indexed by google - this will be there for anyone to find in the future :o

If all else fails, then a few tips for the future - always make sure you are given a postcode as well as address - check them as soon as you're home and at least you will have an early warning of a problem. Also, use your phone to take a few pictures of the damage and make sure the scrote happens to be in the background of some of them.

Good luck

David

PS If you do find out where he really lives, how about a Kent Scoobies meeting outside his gaff ;)

We took Marty down Swingate earlier and the Astra was not around, Marty has what the bloke said was his name and a mobile number that strangely enough does not exist.

Marty was on the right hand lane of a roundabout turning right, the tart was in left hand going straight on and basically cut the corner and hit Marty's front end. He seemed more concerned about damage to his Astra. Its not as though he wouldn't have seen or heard Marty beside him.

The whole thing is captured on the councils CCTV and thats still not enough for the police, Marty reported the incident to the police within hours of it happening as he tried contacting the bloke regarding damage, Police were not interested, Marty then went back when he was informed that the car was not insured and they were even less helpful.

Theres been a white Escort van V420 LBL parked up in the driveway of 19/21 overnight - will keep an eye out for the Astra. Marty, if you want to pm me your mobile and I see the Astra in the area I'll call you m8y.

This type of thing must be the worst nightmare for all of us.

I really fell for you Marty.

We all take the greatest of care of the cars we work so hard to get.

It's good to see that our friendly member is watching Swingate area for the car.

Can we have a description of the driver?

He's got to be in the area somewhere, as he knows Welling to well

Has the car been reported stolen?

I could not approve of physical retribution, but alot of VERY CROSS Subaru drivers on your door step, that's another matter.

If we can all pull together, with this one , I'm sure that we can track the culprit down.

Well they did find the bogus Wii ebayer.
