b4z Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 hi there people after a bit of advice whats the easyest way 2 change the rocker cover gaskets on a uk classic scooby as its a bit tight down there
colin_ross Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 First off, it's a pig of a job in situ. Access, or lack thereof is the major problem so anything you can do to inprove this is going to help. Remove everything that could get in your way so that's water bottle, battery, airbox etc. Remove the stabiliser bar between the bulkhead and the bellhousing and undo the engine mounts. This will allow you to jack the engine up a few inches and as tesco keeps telling us, every little helps. This is as good as your access is going to get so just crack on and remove the rocker covers at this stage. If you're doing it on your drive make sure you put some cardboard down as this is when things get messy. The covers will come off easy enough but the real PITA is cleaing the oil and sealer off of the heads. Take your time and do it right or else you'll be back at square one when they leak afterwards. Make sure you replace ALL the seals, so thats the cover gaskets, spark plugs holes and all off the bolt gaskets. Smear all if the seals in 3 bond to give you the best chance of getting a good seal. Make sure you use a torque wrench to out the bolts back in as they do snap very easily.

Double Zero Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 lol @ fai no i managed to get my hands down the small spaces to get at the bolts I done the driver's side one recently and it only took an hour, remove the airbox and disconnect the coil pack's and it's a piece of cake really, you will get some spillage onto the exhaust manifold when you split the gasket though so mind and clean it up before you box it all up.
