HairyDJ Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Hi folks, One to be aware of? I hadn't realised that they can revoke your reg after repeat offences - bit of a sod if you've paid a few grand for a special one, do they get to sell it all over again! Cheers, David http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/cambrid...ire/7152255.stm Drivers face number plate purge Police insist that number plates keep to legal standards Motorists in Cambs who use illegal number plates are being targeted by police as part of a crack down. During December, police will be conducting checks on the county's roads issuing £30 Fixed Penalty Notices (FPN) and other penalties. Last month 78 motorists were issued FPNs for illegal number plates. Sgt Simon Goldsmith said: "Over the next few weeks we will continue to conduct regular road checks to target vehicles with illegal number plates." 'Changing font' He added: "Not only is it an offence to display these plates but it also creates problems with vehicle identification." The most common offences in relation to number plates are changing the font and spacing of the registration, said Cambridgeshire Police. Anyone caught displaying an illegal number plate more then twice could have the number revoked by the DVLA. Sgt Goldsmith, of Cambridgeshire Police, added: "Motorists may think that their illegal number plate looks good but the fact is they are breaking the law. "I would urge anyone who is currently driving around with an illegal number plate to replace it to avoid a fine."
smudga Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Have to say that to some extent I agree with them... I've seen some with 2 many 'bolts' to make them readable and some that just look plain stupid with some great big scroll script ..... but having had a 3/4 size plate on the front of both scoobs (3years) with standard lettering pleased that I didnt have a problem with the law. Even when one copper looked at it parked up he didnt seem to notice..... maybe because it was standard font and he didnt twig it was small? Think you can get away with the front as the're always seeing it in the opposite direction..... never never change the rear one cos its right in their noses when they follow you... you then become a prime candidate for a tug and that just opens the can of worms!!
