HairyDJ Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Hi folks, http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7147610.stm Maybe not the right week for any impromptu tunnel runs Cheers, David Drivers under the influence of drink or drugs are among those being targeted in a five-day crackdown on law-breaking motorists crossing the River Thames. Kent and Essex police and officers from government agencies will be at the Dartford Crossing from Monday. Drivers using hand-held mobile phones, not wearing seatbelts or in uninsured and untaxed vehicles, or cars in poor condition are also being targeted. Automatic number plate recognition will be in use during Operation Utah. Inquiries will then be carried out on vehicles which arouse suspicion. Ch Insp Adrian Moody, from Kent Police, said it would provide a visible deterrent and an opportunity to stop and prosecute offenders. "By removing law-breakers we can make the roads safer," he said. "Also, with winter and the difficult weather conditions, we want to make sure that vehicles are in a roadworthy condition."
