colzo Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 We have all read the threads on boy racers wanting to race Scoobies, but over the last 10 days or so I have been overtook by no less than 3 Imprezas - 2 of them in 30 zones!!!!!!!!! Now to me I don`t see the point in this. Are they trying to prove they have a faster car than me? If so I don`t really care, what I do care about is the damage limitation this marque is experiencing right now. Just last night I was over took by Bugeyed Wagon (in a 30!) going to the shops then hounded by a Seat Leon GTI/Turbo (whatever you call them) coming back from the shops! I`m I showing my age or am I rightly concerned? Rant over.
jamesm Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 I`m I showing my age or am I rightly concerned? Rant over. Rightly concerned! I was watching some programme on ITV last night about boy racers who film themselves racing/speeding/generally arsing about, and then put on the net. Unfortunately, during the half hour prog, I counted 5 Imprezas. Equally there was a motorcyclist featured who, on a busy single carriageway, clocked 176 in a 60! Even in the office here I get it from time to time. One of my colleagues was recently passed by an Impreza who undertook him using the end of a slip road. I find the young Corsa/Clio/Saxo etc boy (and girl) racer brigade to be worse, but then there are perhaps more of them. I am sure we all drive fast from time to time, but hopefully when it is safe to do so and outwith built up areas. Bottom line is, if someone wants to drive like a tit, they will do so, regardless what they are in.
bogie Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 Nope you are right! This was the reason I changed my STi for a Wagon 2yrs ago as every thime I went out it was like attack of the nobbers! A bit annoying especially with a liitle one in the car. There's a time, a place and a situation for giving it a wee poke. Not on busy roads etc! I think some of the younger generation think they are invincable, but it's only takes a second for things to get very messy.

I`m I showing my age or am I rightly concerned? Rant over. Normally just read but don't reply to these topics, but when it happens to you too then you tend to speak up. Have very little in the way of "challenges" must admit but the one recent strange attempt at someone trying to show off (I think) was from another Subaru driver! There's me minding my own business toddling along the dual carriage way behind traffic when I see in my mirror a slightly beaten up Subaru with a youngster hanging over the wheel. Suddenly right on my bumper, swings in to the left hand lane, undertakes me (so I slow down a little wondering what ejit move is coming next), sits on the bumper of the car everyones overtaking, then dives back in to the right hand lane in front of me (no signals or nothin!!). Not sure if he thought being a fellow Subaru owner I'd be impressed but eh, NAW, I wasn't and I doubt anyone else on the road was either. After overtaking the slower car he pulls back in to the left lane, gets stuck behind another slower driver only to come off the dual carriage way 1/2 mile down the road. I've had people asking why I have a ned/chavs car, gets me quite annoyed, and they're generally the ones that haven't seen it. Get more compliments though from people who've seen it (think cause it's always shiny) or appreciate cars. Not much you can say really to the negative comments as it's the kind of car that could be driven by an 18 year old as likely an 80 year old. It's an affordable performance car and unfortunately some people will do stupid things with that kinda power under the right foot. Time and a place for using that power and couldn't agree more that a 30 zone is most definitely not the place ! Quite right COLZO, get it out your system, I feel better after my above little rant !!
RA Dunk Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 hopefully all the neds and chavs will crash them soon and there will only be the enthusiasts left with classics
C_WRX Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 hopefully all the neds and chavs will crash them soon and there will only be the enthusiasts left with classics It isn't just the classics that are being spoken of as a neg/chav chariot....I drive a newage for example !
RA Dunk Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 the classics appear to have the worst image between them due to the lower prices and being more affordable
colzo Posted December 12, 2007 Author Posted December 12, 2007 I`m glad I`m not the only one feeling this way, I totally agree with there is a time and place for a wee blast but 30 zones are a big no no. You would expect this from the Corsa/Saxo crew but not Scooby owners. I know the Classics are starting to fall into some undesirable hands but there are still plenty of sensible/enthusiast owners. I just can`t get over why a fellow Scooby owner would want to overtake me while I was doing 30 in a 30 zone! it beggars belief!!! Rant over - again!
billyboy Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 I had a Renault Kangoo diesel van under take me on Netherauldhouse Rd in Glasgows southside this morning. You could actually see the driver and his passenger with stupid grins on their faces cause they overtook an Impreza STi.Vankers
Double Zero Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Heading home from Stirling this afternoon up the bypass towards Bannockburn and this t**t in a Bmw 320cd flew past me and another 4 car's with traffic flashing him coming the other way,i honestly thought he was going to hit someone head on ,anyway i finally pulled along side him at the next roundabout and just glanced over his way and he had 2 young kid's in the back and his wife in the passenger seat,i think by the look on his face he had just got an earful from the Mrs. Stevie
empty_heed Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 (edited) it seems bad drivers are always going to be on the road. i was injured in a car accident in 2002 i had the lapbelt on when the car i was in left the road & hit a telegraph pole at 50mph (it was in a 60mph zone). i broke my back & had a spinal cord injury along with some other injuries. i spent 5months in rehab at the spinal unit in glasgow southern general. i'm a paraplegic & permanent wheelchair user. i wasn't the driver but it still hasn't put me off being on the road. i love cars & motorsport. i drive my auto scoob with hand controls. one of my colleagues from spinal injuies scotland (www.sisonline.org) who was also injured on the road took part in a major campaign/multi-media show in 2006, with live performances targeted young people who are approaching driving age and aimed to leave them with a very hard hitting and hard to forget message about their vulnerability on the road. http://www.aberdeenshirecommunitysafety.or...drive_2006.html i think this is a good approach for educating all people about to take to the roads and should be done all over the country. this is the car i was in, i count myself as being very lucky to still be here. thefastone Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Wow! what was that before it died! that sounded like a hell of a crash, and that you are lucky to be alive...
micra_wrc Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 ouch that car is pretty mangled empty_heed> sorry to hear about your accident. Pleased that you are still here with us and strong enough to adapt to whats happened
boris b Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 (edited) As has been said earlier, it doesn't matter what kind of car a loony is driving it will not change their antics... It just so happens you tend to notice more scoobs because you have one. I too have had people do the undertake / overtakes when i'm going about my business ( funny how they never do it when i'm working )... I does p##s you off more when you meet them at the next set of lights and see that they have kids in the car.. I really does beggar belief.. That car crash must have been a nightmare mate. Glad you got away with your life .. Edited December 15, 2007 by Boris B

iain01 Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 That must have been a terrible experience for you, I admire the fact that you have still kept your interest in cars & motorsport as that would be enough to put anyone off.
