Poppin And Flamin' !?

Just a curiousity question here really.... Got a MY00 Classic Uk Turbo, stainless backbox, still got cat etc everything standard (As far as I know) except for a bailey dump valve.

Now the question part, ever since I got the car, i've been using V-Power, after about a week or so I noticed a nice "Pop" from the exhaust when accelerating hard from 2nd and then lifting off.... Another week passes and it still pops once in a blue moon, then a mate is driving behind me and sees a small flame along with said "Pop".....

Cool methinks!! Aaaanyways, the car (still on nothing but v-power) will pop and produce a small flame pretty much everytime I accelerate and lift off the loud pedal... Is this normal/bad/cool/whatever?

Cheers me dears

Does the car drive o.k. normally??? No hesitations etc when you first start to drive it from cold….?

Just a stab in the dark from me, but was wondering if your Lambda sensor could be on it’s way out, meaning the car could be running richer than it should be and therefore producing more pops and flames.

I’m sure there be more techie guys than me along that may be able to tell you what’s what.

As above mine jdm sti v3 also pops and bangs but Andy F mapped it like that for me.

Well when I first got the car (having come from non turbo) It seemed to be really fast, now i've only had it about a month but already it either seems slower or I'm used to it? Having said that, i've had a play with an M reg sti and another uk turbo, ok the sti was faster, but not THAT much faster, as for the uk turbo, it seemed pretty much the same.

Now obviously if it is running rich then I won't see any difference when driving hard? I have felt some hesitation when driving for an hour or 2 (haven't put the car under any strain when cold for obvious reasons so dont know if there is any probs when cold)

The car smells like it may be running rich, best thing I can really do is take it to andy myself and have someone who knows his stuff tell me

Cheers guys

its probably the dump valve. nothing wrong with it if u change your oil more frequently. however if you have the cats still in place i would take it off as it wont be doing them any favours for mot time IMO. could be duff lambda as wel

Well I had thought the dv was acting funny buggers before, when its hot (1hr/2hrs running) instead of just a tsssh i get more of a tss tss tsssh very quick little tssh then one proper tssh, if that makes sense lol.

Bet your all making that noise to yourselves now

had something similar when i had a bailey dv,gave it 6 mths then got rid, youll notice a difference if you take it off and put back to std,if youve got all the bits of course.

Was it a change for the better ? What would you have kept in hindsight? Standard dv = no hesitation? etc etc  Cheers mate.
