scoob fae ork Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Hey guys i need to modernize the dial's and dash lights in my 2004 STI as i hate the green lights i had green in my 1989 Polo coupe. I was looking at an RB320 with red lights but am not sure where i can get them from or even if its possible plus my Defi's and tubo timer are all red and the stereo is blue can anyone point me in the right direction ?????
4Hero Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 the hawkeye sti has red lights too. Not sure if they'll fit though, I only lift my bonnet to check that the engine thing is still there, not very technical when it comes to cars

scouk Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Thanks for that i dont suppose you know how many i would need Also do you just have to remove the 2 screws from the top of the Dials to remove them????? I tried changing the colour on my Bug WRX.. But it's not quite as simple as changing the colour of the bulb.. The plastic channels that the light passes through to light up the dials is actually green too.. So putting in a plain white bulb just shows green! Which sucks! What i've done for the moment is put in some red LED's which does override the green colour but it's quite a dull dashboard.. Still readable when dark but I'd much rather it was brighter.... Also the LCD displays still stay green they dont work too well with the red LED's end up with a red sunspot effect in the middle of the LCD and fading out to green. I did read a mod on the net somwhere where someoen took their dash apart and scrapped off all the green filtering stuff somehow to make it work.. If I could get my hands on a spare set of dials I'll give it a go. just don't want to do it on the current one... Failing that try and source a red dialled dashboard... I've been hunting for one for months, especially a blobeye one with the rev coutner in the middle! but no joy

scouk Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Ah thats not sounding to hopfull al keep an eye out for a set of dials i wonder if the ones of a hawk eye sti would fit ?? I believe they fit yeah but I heard that the wiring is slightly different somehow.. not majorly easy to adjust Somethign about the clock being wired into it or something. The hawkeye STi' ones woudl rock.. Defi startup routin *drool* For the sake of interest here's a photo of my dash this morning: The needles light up nicely but as you can see round the top of the dial it's dull.. In fairness it's slighter easier to see in real life than in that photo Also that pinkness near thje fuel gauge isn't pink it's red like the rest of the dials.. dodgy photo..

Am thinkin this might be more work than its worth but i think al still keep an eye out for a hawk eye dial set an see how or if they are compatible time will tell. I really do want red dials
thefastone Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 well if you think about it like this, if you are serious about having the change... visually, there is 2 changes that you can make to your car, that you will see every minute that you drive you car, your steering wheel and your dials... you might not think that its not worth the hassle, but if you get it right, then it could be the best mod you ever make to the car, but then if it all goes wrong, then you might find that it could end up being the worst... You have to be sure that its what you want like... I know when I changed the Steering wheel in the shed, that was the best mod I could have made, as it made me happy all the time!!!
