Heads Up >> Trip To The Nurburgring 2008 ?

Think many car insurance policys have an exemption from the ring. Its actually a 1 way public toll road. Because of the ammount of accidents the exclusions are in place. Worth checking your policy.

If your going to the ring. BE CAREFULL about learning it on the ps2. GT4 has 3 or 4 corners wrong. A lot of the kerbs are wrong too. Some of the inside kerbs are massive and you can go no where near them. Even the likes of forza2 on the 360 is still a long way off. They give you a bit of an idea of how the track goes. The undulations are much bigger and really put you off if your thinking about the game.

Im no expert. Only been there for a couple of afternoons on the way to do track days at spa. Its deff worth the trip there. Its like mecca for petrolheads. 1st lap will scare the living daylights out of you. Even if you have been on stacks of track days. Just so many different vehicles at so many different speeds. Last time i was there it ranged from a 57 seat coach to CLK DTM, super bikes etc.Once you get used to it. There is no other place like it.

My advice to anyone who thinks about the ring would be to go for it. You wont regret it, unless you end up binning your car. Then dont blame me. Blame the playstation

why? whaddya do?

Not the Gumball but the ****ball, Kinghorn was caught being a naughty box (on the hard shoulder, I believe) and was removed from Germany and told never to return.

Shame really, he was only trying to have a little fun!

Kenny

from my 2007 trip I budget for :-

Petrol £280 ( all in from Aberdeen return plus track fuel - 1243 miles)

Hotel 160 Euro £55.00 Half this for two sharing therefore (£110 each)

5 laps @ 13 Euro £55.00

Ferry Meal x 2 £40.00

Lunch x 3 £30.00

Dinner x 3 £50.00

Beer £50.00

Souvenirs £20.00

Ferry £318 ( two man cabin with sea view) - halved the far with my brother

So based on two people over roughly the same dates :-

Cost me circa £700

Hope this helps

Update :-

As expected the following is confirmed

10th May a VLN race is on .....this makes Knockhill look like a LIDL carpark

( jump to 1 min 35 for the real action). The VLN racing incorporates the GP circuit and the Nordschleife itself. Spectating does not come much better than this

More here :-

( NUTTER in the rain in a Porsche Turbo with lots of lag/oversteer.......)

Aligned with my proposed dates, the track is open for the public on :-

* Saturday evening

* ALL day Sunday

* ALL day Monday

Myself and a mate ( remapped Focus RS ) are gonna book by the end of this month

Cal ,

Can you tell me what ferry terminal you will be leaving from ? Rosyth or Newcastle , just want to know so i can start getting things organised for me and my brother. I would rather leave as a pack , rather than booking a different ferry and travelling from different places ! Also , are you booking your accomodation at the end of the month aswell ?

Keep me posted ! Cheers

It's always been like that.....people in the know creep around the car park and only give it full chat when well away from the barriers

They noise test all sorts of people to satisfy the regulations i.e tourists etc to build up some nice stats

Quote from another forum :-

Nothing too bad.

Nobody will check the TUV-papers there, but it would mean only this:

If you have mods in your car in Germany they must be TUV-approved parts so the car is legally registrated....and that's no news! Most mods have the approval too...If they don't, they are either very low quality or racing parts not intended for road use.

For tourists from other countries, the car must be registrated legally with the mods in the home country, and in most civil countries the mods require a TUV-approval or similar...

So you have to have a legal car when you drive at Ring during the normal tourist drives! Doesn't sound that bad!

But what they will do is start safety checks by technical inspectors running around. For example fluids, harnesses etc...And try to stop junk cars running there. (http://forum.ringersforum.com/viewto...hlight=#283975)

But the new 95dB limit does sound a bit dull!

Quote from yet another forum :-

New, special regulations for the Nurburgring Nordschleife for next year during TouristenFahen.

- All German cars, (which must by law TÜV approved) will be allowed, provided that they can produce TÜV certificates/papers for any modifications on the car on demand

- Non German cars which are standard will be allowed(*)

- Non German cars which are modified will be allowed provided they can produce TÜV certificates/papers for all modifications on demand.

The reason for this is to combat the growing number of race cars which have been using TouristenFahren for cheap practice with a set of foreign plates on, and similarly cars with questionable modifications.

What the general thinking of this, is it will be enforced somewhat like the current noise testing etc, i.e. provided your car looks alright and proper, and you're well behaved you will be unlikely to get challenged.

However, in the event of an incident you'd get in a lot of bother, if you couldn't produce papers...

Similarly if your driving or your car attracts attention to itself, you might be checked...

Most parts (e.g. KW suspension, AP brakes) have TÜV approval, so you should be able get papers for them easily if they didn't come with your kit, by writing to the manufacturer if you have lost them.

Bits off race cars might be harder to explain though..

Can see, and understand why they're doing this from a safety point of view....

Similarly, its going to hope the local specialists, who might well get more business, as a result of perhaps non German tuners not understanding TÜV regulations...

If you have specialist components in your car, for which you don't have TÜV certificates, it is possible to get a SuperTÜV done, but its quite costly.

the (*) refers to a question mark, which is the SVA approved, road registered cars in the UK, whether they'll be allowed or not.... Whilst it might piss on some people's bonfires, I'd like them not to be allowed... as the likes of Radicals, Atoms, Caterhams, have naf all in the way of crash protection...

Talk about a custard pie ! Sorry Paul I never saw that post at all

Here are the dates :-

Thursday 8th - Tuesday 13th May 2008

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rough Plan :-

Thur 8th Drive to Newcastle for 1700 hrs overnight sail

Fri 9th Arrive 0900 hrs in IJMuiden & Travel to Ring <<<< autobahn heaven >>>>/ Check-In to Hotel ( then catch late VLN practice sesh)

Action :- Friday evening :- Evening Pub Sesh

Sat 10th Action :- Saturday Spectating :- VLN racing on the Saturday // Nordscleife open @ 1700 hrs - 2100 hrs

Sun 11th Action :- Sunday :- Nordscleife open @ 0800 hrs - 1700 hrs - this is the main action having a warm up the night before

Monday 12th :- Nordscleife open @ 0800 hrs OR Morning visit to the Nurburgring Museum / Drive back to IJMuiden ( Amsterdam)

Tuesday 13th Arrive Newcastle and drive home

Going by Zeebrugge / Rosyth seem to be poor because a) more congestion in Belgium ;) less autobahn involved

I am just waiting on my bonus being confirmed an I shall then book ferry and accomodation ( either the http://www.hotel-am-tiergarten.com/en/nuerburgring/ or ringhaus)

Hope this helps

there is also the alternative of leaving the Ring around 1500 hrs on the Sunday and having a night in Amsterdam......for me the Dam aint nothing special

and parking there is a ball ache. However it remains an option

I have been to the ring many a time as i reside in Germany! As you can imagine there are stacks of cars from all over Europe that travel there to enjoy the experiance! Although many of the points that have been raised are genuine there is alot off the stuff getting blown out of proportion, more than likely by people that have never been! The only UK car i know of that would have had issues is the White RC developments Evo due to the bumper exit exhaust! They realised this and fitted twin side exits before going on track! Warby has pointed out that if you are giving it large in the car park and at the barriers they may act on it.

I plan to travel down and meet you guys doing the trip and have a good time. My exhaust is about 109db and never had a problem. Cal how many are going? Would you like me to book a few tables in the pitzenklause? You get to cook your own steak on a hot stone the food is outstanding and very reasonable.

I know the very joint you speak of

At the moment it's me and a mate in his remapped Focus RS plus the two wingmen. I would hold off booking anything for now.

When we were there it was dead and then a booking for 40 people walked in so we ought to book up nearer the time if the mission comes to fruition

On the tourist open days it all seems to be good although if your turn up with a spolier like the one below you might be pulled up !

Just to bring this one back to life, well was at the Ring weekend just gone it was the wettest ive ever seen it but managed to keep her in a straight line lol.

As per some of the posts on here they have clamped down a bit on the rules! But as said before if you go round the carpark with your exhaust blaring out then expect the meter to be shoved up your pipe! My mate runs a straight through Nurspec just crawled up to the barrier no problems at all.

Current prices are 1X Lap = 21 Euro but if you buy 4xLaps then you save a bit at 76euro. Gone up 2 euros a lap since last year! Prices in the Pistenklause happily are the same as last year.

Looking forward to meeting some of you and i believe the Lads Club are attending the same weekend.

Current exhaust noise limit is 95db but they plan to bring this down to 90 in the near future!

Put this in your mobiles Nurburgring emergency number 0049 8000 303 112
