scooby princess Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Ok guys and gals, I need some advice and wise words and where else to get them then from the subaru community! As many of you know my car has been off the road for nearly 2 years, and requires a hell of a lot of work and parts. I have had many offers - to which i am extremely grateful for - from people offering to help to do her up BUT the amount outstanding on the car through finance is way beyond the value of the car and im thinking of saying to the company - come and get her! Yes it would be sad to see her go as she was the 1st scooby we owned and i have good memories and a lot is owed to her including my R/O position but looking at some of the cars on here for sale and the price they are going for i could get 2 scoobys for what is outstanding on mine! I cant drive at present and i could clear my debt and get a small car after i pass for now and then save for a decent scooby. Could anyone offer some advice for a confused soul?
tiny gsy Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 being hones, if I was in your position I would send the car back. As you say there is a lot that needs doing to it and you are still only learning to drive. Another option, would be to sell it as is to somebody as a project for them to repair or break for spares as they so wish, I believe that this way you are more likely to recover a larger amount of your debt, although it won`t make a huge difference. Then you can continue to pay off the finance or even buy a small car for you to learn to drive in. A turbo`d scoob isn`t an ideal car to learn in anyway IMHO
Bailey73 Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Check the small print of your finance agreement.... ....some companies will not take vehicles back if the service history and MOT's are not up to date.
jd Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 if HP and you sell, finance company would need to be payed back IN FULL. As Huggy B says check the small print.
kevlorn Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 you will probably still have to pay something sp...............they may give you market value for the car if your lucky....you'll always loose out ive done it b4...."thats finance". although you may feel better with no dept and start all over again, like i did...or the other option is to px against another and transfer the finance etc.........thats probably a better idea,,,get the scoob running enough to drive and px her in for one that needs no work..may save you a few ££££......... so many options sp..

scooby princess Posted November 9, 2007 Author Posted November 9, 2007 Check the small print of your finance agreement........some companies will not take vehicles back if the service history and MOT's are not up to date. Checked agreement - as you thought...................... Looks like a long winded project then!
Bailey73 Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Checked agreement - as you thought......................Looks like a long winded project then! Im sorry - I feel like the bearer of bad new now. Well if there is anything else on the car I can help you with im more than happy to do so.
scooby princess Posted November 9, 2007 Author Posted November 9, 2007 Thanks bailey, i knew this was going to be differcult but if im really honest with myself i would be lost without the car!
kevlorn Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 thats it then...............sorted.........lets get the scoob on the road..
scooby princess Posted November 9, 2007 Author Posted November 9, 2007 i know that - thinking about doing some of the work myself! WITH HELP OF COURSE!
kevlorn Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 you have loads of help in this communtiy sp..............offers coming from everywhere...........just a shame everyone is so far apart/away.
scooby princess Posted November 9, 2007 Author Posted November 9, 2007 I might see if there is a garage / lock up available up here - stepson is also able to do some stuff
Bailey73 Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 It maybe worth looking into a garage that will reduce their labour costs in return for advertising on your car - Once done your car will be at some of the top shows in the Country so its good publicity for them.
Bailey73 Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Subaru4u may be interested imo.... ...they offer better rates than main dealers and free advertising can only benefit them.
scooby princess Posted November 9, 2007 Author Posted November 9, 2007 true but i want to try and get costs down by getting some stuff done before the major work
monkip1 Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 How about getting the car drivable and chopping it in for a Sport/ Sport special, still a scooby just less power for a first time driver?
scooby princess Posted November 14, 2007 Author Posted November 14, 2007 How about getting the car drivable and chopping it in for a Sport/ Sport special, still a scooby just less power for a first time driver? The power isnt that bad as ive driven both mine and eds cars to get a feel it was purely the cost but i think i will stick with the project and then when its finished i can truley say it was a labour of love!
