Totally cr@pped it when the police thumped the door to serve the papers. Thought I had missed the court date and it was a warrent!

Glad its over now, like you say, its the worrying waiting that kills you.

Nah, You dont really see much of an increase in your premiums tbh, I think mines perhaps went up £100 after a month and a half ban... again from an english magistrate... I think its when you have more than about 6 points that they really start to pay attention....

Also, I belive that bans are not like points in the respect that when you have served the ban, its a spent conviction, unlike points, that are valid for what? 3 years, to be removed from your licence after 4years, and no longer have to be declaired after 5 years...

I think its only something like 6 months till I have a completely clean drivers License again...

Yeah, I agree that sucks... I dont think you should have to declare after they have been "spent" sill it was more for if your a bad boi or you do something again... the courts cant take into account points that have expired after the 3 year mark, and so cant use it against you...

Besides, I dont know, if you write away to the DVLA and have it erased off your licence, then they need to find another way to prove it I should have thought... but then computers I think are putting paid to all that.... I think when one knows they all know... Including the bobbies...

When I was banned it was explained to me that they run a "3 strikes and you're out" system. As in if you're banned 3 times you are banned for life in the UK. There's no time limit where the counter is reset to zero! That's what they told me anyway. Maybe one of the boys in blue could confirm that?

Dont think thats right. My friend is on his 3rd ban just now, at a hefty 3 years, and rightly so. But he is due it back in January.

Completely agree. When in my mates car before I always feared for my life! He was nuts.

Saying that, he is now on the rigs, and has a newborn, which I believe will mellow him out. Besides, think it will cost a mortgage to get insurance anyway!

My take on it is once you have surpassed the 4 years for an ordinary speeding fine, then you have paid your penance, and should be wiped forever more, yet i see it that insurance companies use carefully worded questions to be used in their *fine* print of the insurance agreement when you have to make a claim.

Back in the 80's i had a question from one company when trying to insure a Sierra Cosworth which asked "will the car be garaged when not in use?" Go figure..

As always the best policy is honesty. The saving of a few pounds on a premium just isn't worth it, if the claim becomes null and void, through being economical with the truth at renewal time.

Well.. even these days there's no need to find cars that are untaxed on the road or uninsured. Any car passing a police vehicle with the right equipment will draw attention to themselves without the officer in charge having to do anything about it. A good thing imo.
