alank Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 (edited) Is this a serious problem? The ABS light is lit permanently although the ABS still works! any idea what might be causing it or what it would take to fix? Cheers Edited October 26, 2007 by alank
alank Posted October 26, 2007 Author Posted October 26, 2007 Apparenly the handbrake light also comes on occasionally bu goes out when you start to drive like a loose connection or something. The ABS light has always been on and despite going to have it plugged in and checked no fault code is evident and no one seems to know why the hell it is lit up. Considering my last experience with brakes resulted in the demise of my car....
scoob fae ork Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 It could be a dirty connection on one of your sensors your best to get it looked at ASAP as you will have no ABS if your light is up .
alank Posted October 26, 2007 Author Posted October 26, 2007 apparently it has been checked previously and has been like that for some time which makes me wonder how the fek it got its MOT... ######, just when I thought I was getting somewhere

alank Posted October 26, 2007 Author Posted October 26, 2007 Would have to check but from what he has said is is just permanently on
euan_r Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 mine came on when alternator was on its way out. if youve had to replace any bulbs recently that would be the way to go. you can self test abs unit for codes but not sure if procedure changes over the years.
AlanG Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 (edited) My take on it is if the ign is switched on and light goes off after a couple of seconds, this would indicate that all sensor connections are sound. If the ABS light then came on when moving, this would indicate that a sensor is faulty as it is not giving feedback to the ecu i.e. counting the abs ring on the hub. As for handbrake light coming on occasionally this could be something simple as low fluid in the reservoir or low pad material if the pads have wear sensors. Edited October 26, 2007 by AlanG
alank Posted October 26, 2007 Author Posted October 26, 2007 Its the car I am looking at - fair play to the guy for being honest and telling me about it up front but its a bit of a worry esp as would be driving 500 miles home if I was to take it...
AlanG Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 The light being on doesn't mean you have dodgy brakes, it only means you don't have the benefit of the safety feature of ABS. The issue is what is causing it though. May be a simple fix, may be an expensive one.
