Help Urgent ! Zed's Dead

Booked in for a remap tomorrow afternoon and spent the weekend in a mates garage fitting all my bits which had the usual dilemas but tonight tried to bring it home and its chucked between quarter and a half tank out the exhaust in 4/5 miles and wouldn't take throttle. It is now sitting in a layby in the middle of nowhere drained of vital fluids !

I'm still running the original ecu with chip as i thought that would be better to get me home and i'd plug in the apexi when i got to andys so could this be the cause of the problem or have i arsed up putting the injectors in ?

Please help as i'm sitting waiting for a mate with a flatbed to bring her home hopefully and would like to know what to do in the morning to get her mobile enough to get to andys ?

Check a hose hasn't came off the map sensor and if you've got a fuel pressure gauge, check it doesn't go to zero the minute you switch off ignition.

If you haven't got a fuel pressure gauge, check the oil level. If it's way above the full mark, it'll indicate your injectors are leaking and the fuel has went in the sump.

No word on getting car back yet but no fuel pressure gauge but i'll check asap

If it ran fine for a while before giving the symptoms you describe Steve, then it sounds like something has happened while driving, so look at things such as connections, hoses etc.

If it was a pig in a poke from the beginning, the obvious first point to look at would be the injectors sealing correctly as mistakes are common in the fitment.

It could well just be the mismatch of all components and the std ecu is responding to the signals it is seeing. i.e. bigger injectors, bigger MAF.

Agreed - if the fuel pressure is dropping to 0 when ignition is off then be careful as you'll need to make sure you don't start the car until the injectors seals have been checked as you could be slowly filling the combustion chamber with petrol (if there is fuel pressure) and a full cylinder at or past it lowest stroke can have a HUGE hydraulic piston effect if you turn the engine over.

It is possible to destroy the starter motor, bend an OE rod or damage the crankshaft if your not careful (this is of course the worst case scenario but it's worth bearing in mind.

Sounds like injector seal to me.

Remove plugs, disconnect crank sensor and turn over on starter to find which one is passing.

If you have ran her dry then obviously you will need to put some fuel in and prime the system for this check to work.

If it was an injector then you will also need to change the oil as it will be contaminated as suggested previously.

If the cranking check is dry and it idles fine then next most likely is an intercooler hose off somewhere.

Ok got it home and on a quick inspection the oil contains the petrol that didn't go out the exhaust and there was a loose intercooler pipe so first thing tomorrow i'll check the injectors and change the oil and take it from there.

Would it be possible that running it on the chipped ecu meant that the injectors would run as high as the originals ? i:e 98% as this would surely pile in the fuel and what couldn't go out the exhaust washed down the bores into the petrol ???
