alank Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 (edited) http://bbs.scoobynet.com/private-sale-cars...nd-rebuild.html I personally think it is too damn expensive at the moment (£7250), rebuild or not. And moreover am really thinking to hold out and get an import from Stewart. However problem is I really could do with a car sooner rather than later and the rebuild and upgrades done to this wagon would save me haveing to do much for the time being where as an import is going to require a remap at the very least. That and the run around I was hoping to use in the timebeing gave up the ghost last night, on the first drive What do you guys think would be a fair offer? PM me if you would rather not post up. I offered him the £6K I got from the insurance as I think thats not too bad but dont think it went down too well lol Edited October 19, 2007 by alank

I offered him the £6K I got from the insurance as I think thats not too bad but dont think it went down too well lol Yeha, I see what your saying about it being steeper kind... But then I dont know what the list price is... but as an example, I bought my 2000 uk turbot a year ago, COMPLETELY standard and VERY tidy, from a DEALER... AND they spent >2k doing it up... I know that its not an STi, but also thats for a uk car, I dont know how the price of uk cars hold up aginst JDMs in genneral... but looks tidy enough, looks to be looked after... Just remember, that modifications DO NOT increase the value of a car... its not a way of getting your money back, its the engine was rebuilt, then that cast does not get passed onto the next owner... (not that I'm sure thats whats happening like) I'm sure that someone will be along in a minute that will know better than I do!!
diffbuster Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Looks like a clean well looked after car,the only thing i noticed was that splash guards are missing cant think why they would be removed to add front flaps. I would certainly consider it after some negotiation and another set of wheels.Theres also no mention of the oil pump in the rebuild spec you would hope that its been modified with the rest of the work. With the rebuild to that spec i would think it adds value and peace of mind so I would have a look at it anyway.cheers Gary
dan_jess Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 I think it is a decent price. Plenty of history with it aswell. Reciepts for 4k. Maybe asking the guy to drop a grand off the asking price was a bit cheeky, but no doubt the price will be negotiable anyway.
RS Grant Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 I think thats a reasonable price.... I'd be over the moon to buy that car for <7000 mate, I'd guess that at a push he'd drop to 6750 which I'd pay for that car. Its well known in the scene and has had the obligatory rebuild done, with uprated parts too. Cheers, Grant
alank Posted October 18, 2007 Author Posted October 18, 2007 where-as it may have ben cheeky I honestly think I am saving several months of ads with nothing but time wasters being interested v's me being genuainly interested in it for that price. Bearing in mind the 70K miles and paintwork I reckon that 6K+paint repair and decent fogs/covers is about right.... Here' hoping anyway....alternative is import but with 2 month lead time on that and being a bog standard car I am also a bit wary abt that option....
frank c Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 (edited) I thought it was rebuilt at 66k Alan ? Edited October 19, 2007 by Frank C
alank Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 Defo interested and sounds like the rebuild could be a nice platform for some serious mods (see his post on the thread further down where he goes into a bit more detail). Only thing is the rest of the car aint been rebuilt and is still a 8 yr old car with 70K on it Have been in touch with him to see if we cant get something more respectable agreed as he wants too much and I want it to be too cheap hehe.... This is pretty much my only alternative to importing a car with Stewart which in itself is very tempting and in theory for a little more I could have a simmilar age car but with low low mileage in tip top condition if the rest of the cars he brings over is anything to go by. Suppose it is all down to how long I can go without the car and if the cost of importing, mapping & upgrading outweighs the advantage of the clean car. decisions decisions... Alan Ps. have letter from insurance company telling me my car had multiple scratches, soiled interior and old accident damage to the front wing.... popycock!
boris b Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Popycock is a bit harsh... Sory Al.... That amused me at the end.... Think they are telling porkies mate....
alank Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 (edited) Have sent a nice letter to the compliance manager asking for another assessment which actually reflects the true condition of the car. Think the problem is that the cars been sitting in the yard for 2 months and is manky and the crash damage is now rusting up which is perhaps why they thought it was and old banger well give them benefit of doubt at mo... Back to subject in hand - need to try and work out cheapest way to get to Southampton (flybe) and how much petrol it is gonna cost to drive back up and factor that into how much I can offer Smiles. Also paintwork is gonna cost approx £300 and it needs spots or lamps put on it as those black covers are hideous. Set of 17" would also be on the shopping list and wonder how DRBs wheels would look on it Edited October 19, 2007 by alank
drb5 Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 They would look perfect. Still think he's lookin for too much money, especially as i really don't like the colour it's in....never seen it before.
alank Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 lol - it is certainly rare alright.. think it may look quite good with some dark grey wheels on it. Have PMd him (again) to see what how low he will come to try and reach something middle of the road. I offered 6.5 but he didnt really respond to that so not holding my breath.
wilky Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Its too dear, Regardless of condition. Ask the owner if he wears a 3 cornered hat, rides the queens highways and shouts "Stand and deliver!"
paul555sti Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Still for sale Sti performance....... willing to come and go a bit on the price. http://forums.sidc.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=105589
wilky Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Write it off and see how much the insurance company offers on a T reg wagon.
alank Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 Write it off and see how much the insurance company offers on a T reg wagon. oh I dunno, about 5.5K + 1/4 of the cost of any mods I would hazard a guess at...... not bitter honest! seems to be quite a split in oppinion here - I reckon 6.5 is probably fare but lets see how it goes
fai17 Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Still for sale Sti performance....... willing to come and go a bit on the price. http://forums.sidc.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=105589 I would buy this for a little more money and probably a better car too
alank Posted October 20, 2007 Author Posted October 20, 2007 I have been thinking about it but I really like classics and am after something with uprated performance AND suspension - hence the STI Wagon idea....
alank Posted October 23, 2007 Author Posted October 23, 2007 (edited) Aggh (bet I ain the only one saying that when this thread came back to top) Whats the cons of the bugeyes apart from the looks, wondering about Pauls as its a much newer car (altho with mileage a bit high) Also found a 98 V4 STI for 5K somewhere in Bradford http://www.haycliffecars.autoweb1.co.uk/de...mp;cdID=1358679 Edited October 23, 2007 by alank

alank Posted October 23, 2007 Author Posted October 23, 2007 (edited) Yeah - adv dont mention any of that stuff so have mailed them asking for full spec as curious what the module on the side of the drivers well is and there does not appear to be a rear tail light. No mention of MOT or TAX either, still waiting reply tho.. (still also waiting to hear from Smiles aswell, think I have bored him to tears aswell) Edited October 23, 2007 by alank
chris1scouser Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Alan i've read your post and i am in agreement with you, the car is to expensive. there is a 98 sti wagon on autotrader private sale for 6195. i don't think the car is worth 7250. the maximum i think is 6400 and thats with generosity muchness too. if you a desperate for a car the advantage is with the seller. be patient, imprezas are not selling well just now in my opinion. i trawl the web daily looking at car prices and many of the cars i watch are coming down in price. was it you who i told about the scoobybits sti wagon? you replied saying there was a deposit taken for it. i looked yesterday and there was no indication that there was someone in for it. i've an sti wagon, its getting on needs a few things doing on it but its an excellent car. all the best let everyone know what you do?
