lok-stock Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 Hi Guys, as the heading suggests I have purchased a new doudle din head unit for MY07 WRX,fitting could not be easier as the old brackets fit perfect and the new unit has been supplied with ISO fit wiring kit. Here where the problem starts - the new unit is around 3 mm bigger and requires to sit outside of the existing fascia,(which you can guess by now is too small). Anyone out there made any mods to overcome this problem? pictures and advice would be most welcome. Cheers Rob...
STi_Bandit Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 (edited) Hi Mate, I fitted a Kenwood ddx-6029 to my STi and had the same problem as you that it stuck out by around 3 - 4mm which looked bad my solution was the orginal subaru bracket plates that you screw to the side of the head unit was to dremel out the holes by the desired 3 - 4mm to allow the unit to sit further back in the brackets. Just make sure that the headunit does not catch any part of the facisa when opening. Hope this helps. http://forums.sidc.co.uk/index.php?showtop...&hl=kenwood Bandit Edited October 12, 2007 by STi_Bandit
thefastone Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 As far as I'm aware, some double din head units do sit out a few mm... although, I know what you mean, probably looks best being flush...
sti pretender Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 I did the same on my sport fitted a headunit and screen adjusted the bracket by about 4mm with a dremel also had to trim 2mm of each side of the opening, Stanley knife for the straight line and then carefully ground away with the dremel up to the line. Take your time to get a perfect, it is worth it.
lok-stock Posted October 14, 2007 Author Posted October 14, 2007 Thanks for the help and info guys,I have adjusted the bracket so that the unit sits a bit more forward than the old Kenwood unit, only part left to do now is make the opening slightly bigger so that the flip front does not catch on the trim. Stanley knife & dremel should do the rest as long as I have a steady hand, thanks again I will let you know how it goes. Cheers Rob.
