luke_clifton Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Hi, what/who do you recommend for engine cleaning. I was thinking about getting a detailing company to clean my engine but don't want any harsh chemicals or power washers. May yet give it a crack myself, but in the past i've not been too successful with my engine (normally looks dirtier lol). Thanks.

luke_clifton Posted September 12, 2007 Author Posted September 12, 2007 lol i just rubbed mine off with a damp cloth an bits that did not matter i used a water spray bottle to rinse off Okay i'm a wimp when it comes to delicate engine parts.. i cringe everytime i start my car from cold, and feel sorry for it when it goes past 3000rpm (it hardly ever does, i get alot off abuse for driving it slow LOL)
granby Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 but what about the poor alternator? can he cope with water getting in there. I just spayed the stuff on, worked it in with a brush and then hosed it off again, i didn't bother covering anything

matthew_buckland Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 I must admit i cleaned my engine the other week and i used a pressure washer to rinse off, didnt cover anything and she was fine. Enjoyed the wash no doubt. Just be careful not to drench it.
dazzlers82 Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Engine was cold i could not do that myself to scared to lol
Gizmoliddle Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 i could not do that myself to scared to lol Hi People i have just done mine with a jet wash, Plus hot soapy water, When Finished i dried where i could Then got the polish out then gave it a good go over, And a tooth brush for the hard parts, Takes a long time, But i love it, Still got to finish it off, Do it bit by Bit Thats the best Thing, Should be ready for next Week End.
darryl_martin Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 (edited) NOrmally just warm the engine a bit to help with drying. Then armed with AG clean machine, a toothbrush and a hose I do a bit ata time. Spray on the AG, agitate with toothbrush then rinse with the hose before it dries. That way I don't drench the engine. Not had a problem yet! I find it's often the yellow caps and the washer bottle that come up best, if you can do a good job on those then it's a good start appearancewise. Then vinyl and rubber care, or tyre spray on the rubber hoses. Either spray and wipe, or just spray and leave. Should give an improvement Edited September 14, 2007 by Padtwo
