diffbuster Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 I have recently discovered my car is too low for 215 tyres,Can anybody recomend anywhere in the glasgow area for arch rolling and also is it possible to roll the front arches and keep the arch guards? its a 99 wagon.
drb5 Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 How long have you got it?! Most only have to roll the rear arches and 215 is the proper size for a classic....God i'm using 225 without probs. As for keeping the wheel arch liners if rolling the arch, i don't think it's possible at all, as it's the arch itself that holds the edge of the liner up. When rolling the arches on the front it can distort the wing too, if your not carefull.

The car has original sti suspension im assuming its the springs that are lower i have recently put volk racing wheels on with 215x45x17 didnt fancy 40s but clearance is very limited rubbing regularly on rear and occasionally on front i know new springs would be easier option but i like the way its looking now so i will probably just get rears done and live with the front if you can recomend anywhere.
drb5 Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 What ET are the wheels? Sounds a bit strange that it should be rubbing...VERY strange in fact. Auto Image in Glasgow have the proper tool for arch rolling and dont charge too much for it either, but i suggest seeing what the problem is first. Where you located?
diffbuster Posted August 25, 2007 Author Posted August 25, 2007 Looking at the wheel one sticker says of+50 take it thats offset so maybe a tad too much although the wheels did come off my mates type r and he only had an occasional rub on one back wheel and never on the front i will give auto-image a call on monday and take it to them. im in east kilbride cheers gary.
drb5 Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 ET50 is fine for the car....sounds like the geometery is too far out or something......maybe your shockers are a bit knackered?
diffbuster Posted August 25, 2007 Author Posted August 25, 2007 Cheers for that think i will get geometry checked first shocks and springs are in good nick no leaks and still very very firm. Can camber on rear wheels be adjusted on standard set up? just wondering as previous tyres wore pretty even on rear.
B14RY W Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 Yes you can keep the arch guards if rolling the front arches. I have mine done. You need to make up small L shaped brackets and Tiger Seal (or similar) to your newly rolled arches. Simply a case of then drilling your brackets and securing your plastic arch guards with self tappers. Mine are held on with 4 brackets on either side, and have been for about 2 years Hope this is of some use. Cheers Barry
sti pretender Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 Arch rolling can cause you paint to crack was advised of this when I was looking to get my Civic done. Instead the arches were ground back to the spot welds the bare metal edge was painted and then sealed with a bitumen strip (a bit like underseal). Buchan Automotive (0141 647 4492) did mine over at Cambuslang.
