luke_clifton Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Until recently i've not been running my car on Octane booster (import non mapped car), never really believed in them properly. For a few months now i've had a very sluggish throttle response at low rpm and a lumpy idle, I thought it was to do with a sensor problem. well the car stopped popping and banging a few days ago so i got a octane booster and threw in the tank, and within 20miles car felt so much easier to drive. I've now run 2 tanks on octane booster and the car seems to be about 30-40% more powerful low RPM, idle's absolutly spot on, Exhaust sounds MUCH deeper and got my Pops and bangs back . Scooby seems to love the stuff, AND I GOT BETTER MPG I now recommend Octane boosters to anyone with a JDM car.
emmo Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Talking of MPG, what are people generally getting? My car has been uprated to about 380bhp and I'm getting around 20mpg . Anybody else care to comment?
granby Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Import cars really should be run on O/B unless remapped as Japan has a higher octane fuel than us
scoots Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Import cars really should be run on O/B unless remapped as Japan has a higher octane fuel than us Even if you're using shell V power?
granby Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Even if you're using shell V power? V Power is 99 ron and i believe Japan's fuel is at least 100 ron
luke_clifton Posted August 22, 2007 Author Posted August 22, 2007 Import cars really should be run on O/B unless remapped as Japan has a higher octane fuel than us I used to run it on octane boosters but stopped after wasen't noticing any difference (plus money was abit tight). I do run on V-power only and Optimax before v-power so petrol is fairly good, as you say though in Japan they run on 101RON. Now running "NOS Racing octane booster" (the one UPTO 6 extra points) so potentially running 105RON.
granby Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 105ron blimey no wonder it feels better, mine felt better when i put 100ron in it when in Germany
Pele Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 (edited) I have the opposite problem lol As has already been said everything I read suggested that I needed to use 100 ron fuel in my RA as it is a import. As soon as I got it I was putting tesco 99 in and OB, and it ran like a pile of poo - school traffic was a nightmare skipping and hopping lol. One day I couldn't get tescos and had to put Optimax in (before V-Power came out) and it ran like a dream, no probs at all . I put some OB in for Santa Pod and again it kangarooed and held back . I did a bit more research and found that when the classic WRX, sti, etc imports were made, only 95 ron was available in Japan - so in theory the cars were made to run on this, and in fact when I put BP Ultimate in (97 ron) it ran better than it had with any other fuel, I just can't afford BP prices lol. Now Optimax has changed to V-Power I'm having the same problems again with the skipping and hesitation, so I'm going to try just putting 95 in and see what happens.... Watch this space for engine rebuild if its wrong lol..... And yes I'm an insomniac.... Edited August 23, 2007 by Pele
GTB Limited Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 Might be beneficial to reset the ecu, as you add and remove the drugs. As the ecu is using data on the last batch of fuel. Mark
