frank c Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 Hey folks, hope somebody can help. My car is doing ma nut in lately. I have recently fitted a new turbo and intercooler and was about to contact Andy to get it mapped but now have found an oil leak somewhere. At first i thought it was from the turbo , but i found oil (drivers side) on the bottm corner of the rocker cover (if that's what it's called) ? . It's dripping onto the up-pipe (wrapped) hence the oily smoke and found some on the subframe ( ?) . I tried to nip up the bolts to see if it would stop but haven't checked since due to the bl00dy rain. Is this any easy fix and more to the point , would it be ok to run it to get it mapped.? I've already fitted the aps cak so can't take it to a garage to get it checked or repaired until it's been mapped. What should i do...[:S] cheers.
fai17 Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 Maybe coming from the oil return pipe from your newly fitted turbo.
frank c Posted August 5, 2007 Author Posted August 5, 2007 Someone else mentioned that Peter especially since the new turbo has just been fitted, so it makes sense ..but I've no idea where to start looking.. Obviously it's above the up-pipe somewhere as that's where it's leaking onto but there are pipes everywhere. I wouldn't know where to start. Anybody got some "Idiot proof " pics so i can try to locate this return pipe ? [:$] so i can try to have a look myself..
fai17 Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 You need to get under the car to see it.......i had that problem also.....smoke coming up from underneath the turbo
frank c Posted August 5, 2007 Author Posted August 5, 2007 You need to get under the car to see it.......i had that problem also.....smoke coming up from underneath the turbo Did yours smoke constantly Peter ? Does the return pipe just fit into a hole or is it clamped in ? I'd take the turbo off to check but i wouldn't know what to do or where to start..[:$][] It's the only thing stopping me from getting it mapped Unfortunately I've already fitted the CAK so the car is stuck in my garage so i can't take it anywhere for them to check it
fai17 Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 It only smoked when it was driven hard..... I'm sure that it's tighten with a hose clamp.
frank c Posted August 5, 2007 Author Posted August 5, 2007 Thanks for the info Peter..[] Just had a wee look and it doesn't "appear" to be smoking from under the turbo..[:S] I'll need to look more into the rocker cover gasket and maybe even to see if the phud that fitted the turbo has maybe spilled oil on to the heat wrap and it's just taking AGES to burn off. It's just weird that it only occasionally smokes . So it's either the return pipe, the rocker cover gasket or oil on my wrapped up-pipe , i need to try and find out so i can EVENTUALLY get it mapped.
AlanG Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 More than likely it will be the small "D" seal between the head and the rocker cover. You have a rocker cover gasket and a rubber seal right at the top of the rocker cover. Oil will ooze out slowly and drip now and again onto your up-pipe. If it's the oil return pipe, i think you would have a little more problem than a smoky up-pipe. Ask drb5! []
drb5 Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 [] Indeed Alan! Heh he he. RCM sorted me out with a specially made bolt....not cheap, but it cured the problem. [H] Told Frank about the turbo oil feed pipe, but reckoned it was the rocker cover gasket. Near enough every scoob i know of has had this replaced or has a small sweat from them.
johnnyr6 Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 Another option could be the banjo bolt from the feed. It can leak at the washers. This is at the edge of the os head under the turbo. Playsatan had a tiny leak there....lol Good luck. Johnny

Started the car earlier and guess what........... no smoke..[:S] thanks for the replies guys. And thanks to Dave..[]
