Guest Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 well in the near future im finally going to buy my first impreza. looking to spend about 10k my option are 1. A mint V6 sti type-R and a wee bit left for a few mods. 2. A V7 sti uk model a bit newer but worse looking than a classic 3. A late uk turbo and spend a bit of money getting it faster. At the end of the day it has to be reliable as it will be my main run about although it would not be used for long journeys. it has to be able to fit a set of golf clubs in the boot as well as my current car a golf of all things does not except a full set very well how ironic it has to be reasonable to insure as im only 24 although i now have no points, full no claims and am about to sit my advanced driving. im quite open to suggestions so feel free to comment
z1000 Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 You may even get a high milage newage sti for 10k which would be better than a bug Personally a v6 STi Ra and some go faster bits.
superstar_tradesman Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 any sti type r mate. I personally have a v3 sti 555 but if I was changing it I'd go for the type r over anything. Possibly the most hardcore scoob ever made. 300bhp as standard with dcd gearbox, a weapon [Y]
oobster Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Why not go for a WRX - slightly cheaper to insure. Then after a couple of years go for an STI. For 10K you could get a really well looked-after blobeye WRX - there might be a nice red one for sale shortly []
dan_jess Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 V5 or V6 Sti type R, theres a few for sale at the moment. Speak to Stewart Chapman on here, he imports cars and will prob get what your after, he has 2 V6 type R's at the moment but i dont what price there goin for. Happy hunting
Guest Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 well type-r is the more tempting due to the relative rarity and the pure raw power people mention. will have to check insurance aswell as it may be a joke. Can anybody point me towards a good company??

z1000 Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 Nothing if it goes like urs [Y] i just prefer the looks of a newagw but the overall package of a classic. Steve

RS Grant Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 If its going to be your runner... then I'd point you towards a V7 STi which comes with the stronger bottom end and 6-sp box in it. IMO, a Type-R is great as a toy, but potential for £££ bills is higher than the newer Scoob STi models. If you arent a fan of the Bugeyes, then save up another couple of grand and buy a V8 STi for about 12k mate. Its best not to rush into anything, look at a LOT of cars before deciding on one as it'll be easier to gauge what is/isnt a dog if you've got lots to compare. Cheers, Grant
col666 Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 Dont even think about using a Type r as a long journey car it will drive you insane and bankrupt you with fuel costs! I used my old one for 6 months commuting 100 miles round trip. The short ratio gearbox is a pain on the motorway, a complete hooligan on back roads though!
glen_cadwallader Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 Well im on my 8th scoob ive had them all !!! Version 8 sti would be my advice for you mate, but you'll need another 2k to get just the right one, you may manage a v8 sti ppp for 12k which is great ive got one of them as my daily driver. Type R very nice, but most have had a hard life and now 10 year old nearly !! same goes for P1's.
Guest Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 well it would be my main car. I do have another car but it's boring to drive so tend to do most of my mileage in the faster car currently a golf VR6 which iv done 35k in in the last 2 years. is their a huge difference between a V8 sti and a V8 wrx?? they are alot cheaper but don't have the same look?? i thought about a P1 but every other one has had a rebuild which was an off put. I have a mate who works for AWD who would come to look at any car i may look at so he has first hand experience of the various faults with each model which is always handy he can also carry out any mods or repairs for reasonably cheap.
