seano Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 Just took a deposit on my impreza lastnight[:'(],spoke about selling it for a while but never put it up for sale as im not sure if i want to sell it but i allways want something else. Now someone has made me an offer and im going to take it. He left a deposit and is going to take it when the money has cleared, poss the end of the week ,So i have been looking at m3s has any one got any history on what they are like to drive im looking to buy at least a 51 plate or newer, or i have been offerd an evo 8 mr320/340 (can remember what one) at a good price. Any info would be great or any ideas of somthing good thats out there even another subaru if it was something special.
z1000 Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 I just got rid of my E36 M3 evo and it was ok but no subaru [] but from what i've heard the E46 is a far better machine.
TheTerminator Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 Sean, your mad mate.. That is one very nice scoob to get rid of. Best of luck with the new motor, M3 convertible for the summer????[]
david_taylor Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 It would be a M3 for me. If I got rid of the scoob that would be my next choice. My mate had a M Tech and I really liked the car. Pulled good and surprisingly good handeling for a RWD. I have heard more bad things about the evos that good. My friend was telling me the windows flap at high speed and they are cheap as on the interior. Even more so than subaru. Dave
col666 Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 I am in the same boat, not sure what to buy next. A E46 M3 and Evo are also on my shortlist. Afraid to buy the M3 incase i dont like it as it may be a bit too refined for me! prefer something a bit more hardcore like an evo 8. Dont really want another scoob, the hawkeye doesnt really float my boat and they are dare I say it common! flame suit on!! Decisions decisions!
seano Posted July 2, 2007 Author Posted July 2, 2007 I had an evo 7 and it was a good car,I just get a bit fed up i think and im getting more money than what i paid for the car if that wasnt the case id keep it as its great fun and iv never past another white blob eye STI and thats why i got it coz its so diffrent
spooks Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 E46 M3 are great cars but there are a few things you should know. If you think a scoob is an expensive animal then the M3 will be an eye opener, they are a whole new ball game for everything with regards to expense. The engines are bullit proof, gearbox's great ( SMG are great when you get used to them) the rear diff's can be noisey and problematic at times, The fuel ecomomy is worse than a scoob, th epower is better than a scoob and no matter what anyone says will overtake a standard or lightly breathed upon STi at speeds above the speed limit, better fun ( rear wheel drive in the wet ) depreciate less and they eat tyres for a giggle. Gimmie a shout if you need any other info
colzo Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 Like the M3s myself, saw there was 2 for sale at one of the Glasgow dealerships the other week.
fai17 Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 If you get a lovely M3 then don't bother racing me as you have no chance especailly in the wet[] Good luck with what ever you look for. what about RB320?
seano Posted July 2, 2007 Author Posted July 2, 2007 Its got nothing to do with whos car is faster its just i fancy a change, as much as i love the subaru when your being offerd good money youd be stupid to say no!!.And its not an m3 for deffo like i say iv been offerd a good deal on an evo 8 mr. and a p1 has just been traded in to my work but looks a bit of a humper so subarus still have a chance if one comes up that is good
gary_johnson Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 My mate is selling his M3 CSL...its not cheap...lol, there is a link in the for sale sections.
colzo Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 If you get a lovely M3 then don't bother racing me as you have no chance especailly in the wet[] Think I`d rather sit in the luxury of a M3 than any Subaru. []
glen_cadwallader Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 If you cant afford a decent one, i.e a post 2003 M3 I wouldnt bother mate, you will be setting yourself up for expense putting it right. Ive owned 3 of them and an M5 a 53 plate in estoril and a 54 plate in carbon black. The pre 2003 cars all had a recall as the bottom end bearing shells were failing, do you really want to buy an M3 that has had the crank shells removed and refitted, by a bmw dealership ?! When you blow an M3 engine, unless you can get a second hand one for 3-4k your looking at 10k to get a new one fitted through BMW. And im not atall biased, im on my 8th scooby, also had 3 evo's. They are stunning cars just make sure you get a proper one. The running in service MUST be in the book.
seano Posted July 4, 2007 Author Posted July 4, 2007 Thanks for the advise mate but i think the evo is going to be the one as i know the boy selling it, im thinking of buying it and mabey keep it for a few months till i make my mind up what i want
glen_cadwallader Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 No probs mate, I guess you need to try an evo, I am sick to death of them now, had enuff lol, im sticking to subaru
seano Posted July 5, 2007 Author Posted July 5, 2007 Iv had an evo (7) before but some one has offerd me good money for my car so that is the only reson im selling it so where do i go next.this evo has been offerd to me for good money so im thinkink about it but like i say not a deffo yet
glen_cadwallader Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Yep fair point bud, if your getting offered good money then just sell your car, it will be exciting getting something different. Could you maybe stretch to a WR1 ? Nows the time to find a minter and stick with it they are down 10k on new price perfect time to buy, you'd loose very little over the next two years. I understand your hankering for an M3 aswell, been there, love them but there is just something about them which doesnt hold me for long, and its not because they are pricey to run, because they arent !! People who say that have no clue, even dealership servicings reasonable.
seano Posted July 5, 2007 Author Posted July 5, 2007 What sort of money is in a wr1 and are these better than an sti?
glen_cadwallader Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Yes mate miles better than an Sti your loking at 261bhp in an sti as opposed to 320bhp in the WR1 which comes with active diffs all round, and a whole host of extra's only 500 ever made. Youd be 18-20k for a MINTER with low miles. A reasonable one 17k. Ive got a 03 prodrived sti aswell its got the upgrade from prodrive to 301bhp, its pretty good I have to say, but for the real mccoy you need a WR1.
