Last week on my return from Arrochar to Glasgow I went via the A83 road to Garelochead as I usually do when its dry . . . . . a few miles down the road I remembered about the single track road over Glen Douglas that joins the A82 at Inverbeg. . . bright idea . . . I can pretend I'm on a 'special stage' as I knew there were a few hairpin bends on the way up. All was going well up the hill in 2nd & 3rd gear blasts . . . . got to the top of the hill went over the cattle grid . . . the tarmac gets slightly narrower . . . . there is no verge . . . only a ditch on each side a least two feet deep and at least the same in width . . . . my head says slow down . . . so does my a**e . . . . I slow down. Just as well I did as round a bend shortly after I confront a Police Patrol car, a 4wd Nissan Terrano . . . . one of us had to reverse to a passing place . . . PC Plod starts to reverse . . . about 5 yards later he is in the ditch . . . vehicle at 45 degrees . . . . 2 wheels in the air . . . axle grounded . . . I manage to squeeze by trying to stop pissing myself . . . Who says its only women who can't reverse???

Drive up A82 to Tarbet then on A83 to Arrochar and for some white knuckle driving when you get to Arrochar follow the sign for Garelochead at the Arrochar Hotel. Its a bit of a narrow and twisty roller coaster best driven in the dark (so you know when you are likely to meet other cars). When you get to the roundabout just before Garelochead take a left then a left at the next roundabout about a mile further on. This will take you on the 'haul road' back to Loch Lomond, this road is much faster although there are a couple of slow corners to watch out for. For a higher speed drive when you get to Arrochar head towards Inverary then Tarbert (note the 'r'). Its a cracking fast drive although be aware that this road is often patrolled by Strathclydes finest in daylight hours. Enjoy.

It was me . . . . a newbie member. Only had it a couple of weeks, my first decent car since my Ren 5 GT Turbo many years ago. Its good to get rid of the company Audi/BM etc I've been subjected to for the last 10 years. I'm looking forward to a few years of fun . . .
