  1. You're very lucky then, because part of the eSVA test the emissions are tested and added to the V5, technically if your car was imported and registered after the cut off date you should be paying £400+. Just be thankful for the muppets at the DVLA.

  2. a wee birdy told me last week that methonal is avaliable at a garage pump in dundee. any truth in this?

There is E85 BioEthanol available(at least it was) at the Morrisons supermarket. Not to be used unless mapped for though.

  3. Who is saying that Shell are intorducing E85? This isn't true!! At best they will be introduce V-Power with a 5% bioethanol content as per EU regulations, that's it.

  4. I think Andy was referring to the additional "addon" for ECUEdit which fudges the standard read protcol and allows you to bypass the ECUTek lock on the ECU. I wouldn't class it as "pirate" either but perhaps a little unlawful if used as it's breaching licencing agreements.. However it could be useful for diagnosing problems if a ECUTEk mapper isn't available.. I have a copy of this hack (as I'm sure many other OS mappers have) but never used it.. Curious to see if it works though

I do agree with Andy that it's pretty unlawful to read licenced maps which someone has paid good money for, that's the whole point of the lock, but I also see the other side where if someone pays for a map they should have ownership of it and be free to use it in whatever way they see fit.. Quite tempting to see other peoples maps but there are plenty other off the shelf maps on teh OS market (perticularly on US sites) for comparing different maps to see what mappers are doing.. All totally legit..

Despite being on the OS side of the fence, OS doesn't have any sort of proper Launch Control or Dual Mapping available.. yet..... WHich ECUTek does have as a stable platform.. Not so much interested in LC but Dual Map woudl be handy...

The reverse engineering of the ecutek lock/protocol is no different to what ecutek did with the subaru/Denso one. There is no license, that's merely a marketing term imho, I certainly never seen nor agreed to one when I had my map.

I agree this shouldn't be used to steal maps, however, it is handy if you have one of the ecu's that can't be unlocked.

I now have a non-ecutek ecu and have played about with LC, it works well, it'll build 10 or so psi stationary. Dual maps are available but only a few Roms are supported.

I'd be willing to help anyone out that wanted to get started using OS to log or map, just give me a shout.

  5. Just to add that there is no proof that ECUEdit is pirate, far from it. They've obvioulsy reversed engineered the ECUTek handshaking protocols(lock) but that's no different to what ECUTek/ECUFlash have done with the Subaru/Denso ECU.

  6. As the mapper, I can vouch for Grahams claims re boost threshold. Not typical of a VF35 I might add, just a good example :(

    Andy

Hi Andy, I'm sure you can understand my query, that's a good 4-500rpm before I would expect a VF35 to make that boost, kinda makes you think whats the point of the twin scroll if the single scroll turbo can spool as well. I'd go as far as saying that's one of the quickest spooling VF35 in the world, good claim to fame!

I'm away to blow it through my hoop, not looking forward to it!!

    Cheers,

    Paul

  7. The VF35 doesn't spool that fast mate. What gear was this in, are you using your boost gauge to verify that or is it via laptop?

Edit - Unless you are on a 2.5, but even that is a push.

  8. Boyd still has no clue how to hold the ball up, has no idea how to jump for a ball and his first touch is non-existant. It's all very well hammering the goals in against diddy teams, but it's been seen time and time again, against half decent opposition or even away from home he doesn't cut it. I'm a buenose and an ex-season ticket holder btw in case anyone calls me out for being one of them!

  9. Snow last night was huge flakes, fantastic. Kept buggering up my sky dish with the sheer volume of snow landing on the LNB, good job i bought the wife a new long warm coat in the sales lmao

'' go clear that dish honey 'am in ma jammies'' ha ha

LOL, happened to me last night too.

  10. Hi

you got to try the evo , you can always go back to a scoob , having had a few variants of scobs i now have two evos and straight out of the box the evo win hands down as a drivers car

scoob a great car from a to b and fun on track and your wife and kids can drive them with no problem , the evo takes a wee bit more consentration on road and i find my wife struggles with the way the power is delivered but the daughter loves the ayc and likes getting it sideways :P and on track its a superb beast , i get more smiles :( from the evo than i did the scoobs but give it a try and tell us what you think if you dont do it will always be in the back of your mind.

    cheers Don

    You've clearly never driven a Spec C mate....B)

  11. Paul can you add a % of e85 to V-power on a remapped for V-power Jdm Sti and would there be any gains or waste of money??? .Morrison's in Dundee do it

You could add a couple of litres to a tank, it works well as an octane booster, only really any use when mapped for though. Higher percentages will require bigger injectors, but along with the increased knock resistance you get better spool due to the fact that E85 is oxygenated. If I lived closer to Dundee I'd map my car on E85, but it's just to far away.

  12. 3. Will the E85 bring the RON values up and will it have any effect on the running of highly tuned vehicles?

I can answer this one. E85 is typically around 105+ octane, but you do require 30% more flow than petrol, obviously a remap is essential. Big power cars will need huge injectors/ fuel delivery systems, even at 400 odd bhp you're looking at needing 750-800cc injectors.

Running 5% bioethanol in regular fuel will increase the RON rating(Tesco do this to acheive 99RON), ECU fuel trims can easily compensate for this amount of bioethanol.

  13. The EU have stipulated that all fuels have to be at least 5% bio fuels, so Shell will be adhering to that.

As far as Tesco 99 goes, I've never heard of the problems mentioned above, Duncan Graham used to run his Time Attack car on the stuff.
