It hasn't been for the last 2 years, so cant see spectators being allowed in this year either... Easy way to get around it though, just volunteer your services as a marshal. You get closer to the action than any spectator, and usually have the chance to win a ride in a front running car in the marshals raffle...

Gus - Ingliston is on April 22nd, should be good as the Mini is getting a funky new engine built, a new floor fitted and the gearing raised as we speak, so it should be competitive with some of the 1400 class cars. Pic below is from the NE25 Rally, we came 2nd in class and 4th o/a, clouted a tattie box on the way (see dent in co-drivers door!).
-
GustheBus - Small world, I co-drive for Adrian Stewart in that Mini (Not me pictured though)! Great wee car, will be doing Ingliston at the end of April in it, will be good to see how it compares with some newer cars... Favourite Rally car? Cant beat the sound of a Mk1 Escort RS1600....

55CC Autocross near Inchture on the 13th Aug
creationracing replied to zeolite's topic in Scottish Scoobies
How did this go guys, anyone got any pics/stories? -
Yeah, have had a fair amount of feedback from a few people saying they'd be happy to come back for another event, just not to that field... Guess we may have to look for a venue with a harder wearing clay surface, but I'm reluctant to abandon Coneyhatch totally as it's free, most of the residents at the farm compete and youre right next to a good source of tools and spares if something goes wrong! Im not exactly a soil-ologist but I'm guessing there's not much that can be done about the surface of that field, pity as it was a brilliant track, will probably get it levelled off and compacted so we can get another go on it sometime, hopefully with a bit more moisture it'll be a bit more car-friendly! Some nasty damage you got there Ian, hope it's all fixed soon. Got a wee dent in the front of my Fiesta from doing a "burning Messerschmit" nose-dive off one of the jumps, other than that it's in one piece! Nobody get any pics of me, blue and white Mk2 Fiesta?

Thanks to the SIDC Marshalling Posse!!!!
creationracing replied to creationracing's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Just wondering how long it will be until a couple of SIDC members club together and buy a cheap Legacy or early Impreza (or even a 4WD Justy!) and have a crack themselves... Team SIDC perhaps...? Would be good to see! -
Hi guys, Just want to extend a big massive huge thanks to all the SIDC members who turned up at our Autocross today and donned the yellow marshalling bibs. The event was praised by everyone and without you guys, it would either not have been run or run in a much curtailed format. Hopefully you guys had a good day out, and I do apologise for forgetting to thank you all formally in the closing announcement!!! If there is anything our club can do to return the favour to you guys, please do not hesitate to let me know. Am already going to request our webmaster put your link on our club site and try to mention you in our media coverage, but if you have any ideas just shout! Until then, I hope you all enjoyed your day and maybe got inspired to give it a go yourselves!!!! Kindest Regards and thanks once again, on behalf of Stonehaven & District Motor Club, Roy Kemp PS, Any piccies? Stick them up!!!! []

Just so you guys know what to expect, here is the provisional entry list for tomorrow, some interesting machinery on there! Reckon by Sunday night a heap of you will be trawling eBay and scot-ads for a cheap early Impreza to tear to bits for the one in september.... -

No worries mate! Just thought Roy Henry sounded more like a character from a poncy Jane Austen Victorian period drama... [:@] -

Hi guys, good to see youre all keen to come along and get into the thick of it! Like zeolite said, once you've seen an Autocross in action, you're guaranteed to want a go! Signing on starts at 1000, and first practise starts at 1100. Marshalls have to sign on as well (so youre covered by insurance etc etc etc) so any time between 10 and half 10 should be cool. Even if some of you are only popping up for half the day, that would be great as its quite a long day so we could get you to take over from the morning marshalls. I will try to provide a few deckchairs etc for the marshalls posts but bringing your own would be a good plan! Cheers for all the help lads and lasses! Ayrton Senna remembering 12 years on
creationracing replied to STi_Bandit's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Still remember that day, got home a bit later than expected so thought I'd only have missed the first few laps of what should have been a great race, only to find the red flags out and marshalls attending to Senna. Spent the rest of the day glued to the motorsport page on Teletext (no internet back then) waiting for any good news, very upset when it didnt come. Truly a driver who could take an average car and make it look like something special... And was daft enough to take a drunken swing at Eddie Irvine! [] Doesnt seem like 12 years though does it? -
Will be there, co-dring car 50.... [] Seeing as I'm making the journey, I will try to drag along some spare bodies for marshalling as well... Roy

Also worth adding that the minimum age for Autocross is 16 years and Clubcross is 14 years..... -

Thanks for the vid post Ian, worth pointing out that we don't start our cars 4 at a time like you guys. How do you get awaw with doing that rules wise, doesn't it blur the line between Autocross ans Rallycross? Might be worth seeing if we can start doing it like that! Didnt know that John, thanks for letting me know! How about a club entry? A few of your guys club together, buy and prepare a wee 1.2 4WD Justy or something, paint it in SIDC colours and enter as a team? Worth considering! -

Gumball, my apologies, have consulted my little rule book and it would appear that you need at least a rear cage even to run in the Roadgoing Production Car class. Seats and belts can stay standard. Air filter and exhaust can be changed. Wheels can be changed but suspension must remain standard. Transmission must be as standard. Any more modifications to your car and you will be in the Modified Production Car class. Here you can tune the tits off your engine as much as you like (as long as you keep the block standard and in the same position), same with the transmission. Suspension components can be changed but must retain the original layout. 4 point harness is mandatory but original seat can be kept. Fire extinguisher recommended but not required. Hope this helps mate! Roy -

Good stuff Pete, if you want to get involved in motorsport the first thing you have to do is join a Motor Club, PM me your email and I will send you an SDMC membership application form. Its only £15 pounds a year (not £12 as i put earlier....) and it gives a regular news letter to keep you in touch with and will allow you to enter events. From there you need to apply for an MSA competition licence, download the form from www.msauk.org , you wil need the "Speed Non-Race National B" licence, this will allow you to enter virtually anything in the UK apart from circuit racing and stage rallying. From there on it's basically a case of getting a car ready and entering an event! I forgot to add that more than one person can enter in a car in a Speed event like Autocross, so if you want to share costs with a mate thats fine. And while im writing I'll also mention the SDMC Fiesta Challenge, it's a one-make championship open to Ford Fiestas with engine size restricted to 1100cc and with limited modifcations to keep costs down. Its held over 6 events per year, 3 Autotests, 2 Autocross and one Clubcross and, like all the championships, the winner gets a nice big shiny trophy at the end of the year. If anyone is interested I will email technical regulations, PM me your addresses. Gumball, it depends what class you wish to enter in. There is a class for Road Cars which means you can run in a standard car with no cage etc but if you wish to enter some of the higher classes you will need extra safety equipment. Parrots are strictly prohibited as they flap around too much in the car and Monkeys are only permitted if they are wearing full flameproofs, helmets and held in by at least a 3 point harness.... -

MTB? Excuse my ignorance but whats MTB? Costs are about as low as youre going to find in Motorsport. Entry fees are about £30 (I think but would be stated prior to an event) per time and thats about it to be honest. Of course a full tank and a spare jerrycan of gas will be required on top of that, along with diesel for your towing vehicle and costs for trailer hire (if youre towing your competition car), but you can find ways to cut costs. Speak to local garages and ask if they fancy towing your car to events in return for their name and phone number along the side of your car. Basically you spend as much as you want to. If you want to do it cheap and have good fun, run a standard rear drive Sierra on road tyres. Best thing is there will always be someone with similar equipment to you. But yeah, something like a Colt would be ideal for this. Get to work! -

Oh, and the only Clubcross rules I can think of off the top of my head are the ones listed above. No forced induction, no 4WD, engines must be less than 2000cc (and I think no more than 2 valves/cylinder) and you must run on road legal tyres. Basically just seems like a slightly watered down Autocross for people who want to give it a crack in their road car... I shall consult the blue book later and give some more details. Roy -

Zeolite, again I can only apologise about the cancelled events, we have been given 3 dates for 2006 and I'm on every forum from the ANECCC board to here shouting as loud as I can to drum up some support. This is the first year I've been involved in the promotion/organisation of such events and if it has anything to do with me we will have good healthy entry lists for all our events! I'll be nominating another clerk of the course on the day so I can compete as well, even letting another hooligan double-enter in my car to get the entry numbers up! Venues are TBC at the moment but will certainly not be a problem if there is demand for the events. Off the top of my head the minimum number required for an event to run is 12. Pretty sure this is dictated by either Insurance or the MSA Permit, so it's not a case of sour grapes by the club if an event is cancelled. Like I said I will be doing my best from now until then to make sure the events run, even looking into the possibility of hiring out ready to race vehicles to people who fancy a crack but dont have their own car. And I appreciate your promise of you and your partner entering if the event runs, just need some more people to follow your lead now! And like I say to people, you dont have to enter your pride and joy WRX, that old 1.2 Nova sitting unloved in your mates driveway will be just as much fun to tear to shreds round a field and a lot cheaper too! PS, does anyone know of any other local car/driving forums I can go begging on...? -

He he, good stuff mate! Well point her over here, as well as anyone else who might be up for giving their car some proper stick. We're not fussy, old/young, blokes/burds, Scoobys/Skodas, anyone is welcome to give it a crack! And for all those with huge rims and coilovers thinking "no f****ng way am I doing that with my car", theres always Sprints and Hillclimbs, similar idea, one car at a time against the clock but on a Tarmac surface, a bit gentler on the car... SDMC don't organise these but look at Aberdeen Motor Club's site www.admc.org.uk and you will get some info on there. Good way to keep the old licence safe as well, do all your fast driving at weekends where it's legal and you get trophies instead of penalty points!
