  1. As has been mentioned earlier everyone is entitled to an opinion so here is mine. Like many other I have owned and driven Subaru's for many years. During that period I have spent much more money that I would ever like to admit at some of the best know names we associate with modifying Japanese cars, specifically Subarus. I have driven and trailer transported my car/s the length and breadth of the UK having work done at Falkland Performance, TSL, PowerStation and Roger Clark Motorsport (RCM) to mention but a few. Then a few years ago I was recommended by one of the best (and aforementioned) names in the Subaru business to have my ongoing modifications done locally right on my doorstep by BDCS. You simply do not get a better recommendation than that and this was on the back of the high quality and reliable work BD was and still is involved in. Regarding being grumpy....well it’s all been said already. Brian is man of few words and has a no nonsense approach to life. He does not suffer fools gladly, and believe me....as I have witnessed many times while being at his place, he has more than his fare share to deal with! His philosophy is very simple, if you are interested in buying a car let him know, but don’t expect him to pander to every swinging dick that come in past his place to look at some very fine examples of performance cars. He does not deal with cheap or nasty cars. If you are looking for smiling faces and have the need to feel special then you know where to go for that kind of patter and salesmanship; of course you could also go visit the ladies of the night down town Abz... If you want to buy a high quality motor or receive high quality service from someone who is extremely knowledgeable, someone who is recommended by the likes of RCM and Bob Rawle, someone of the highest personal integrity, someone who is very reliable, someone who is a fellow enthusiast and someone who drives a modified (and very capable) Subaru himself, then I can only suggest you go visit BDCS and let him know you are seriously interested. He does what it says on the tin. This post is my pennies worth and is not written to contradict the views or opinions already posted. Like Callum I don’t post on here very much anymore, second time this year in fact, but I felt obliged to share my experiences with the wider audience. Jools. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=48...86704&hl=en PS, Callum, soon as you get finished up with the black beast we will start of the blue one thereafter....so flee on
  2. Grant and co, well done for what you did today. Very touching and fitting indeed. Saw the club on the news today and I am in DK. Jools
  3. I have been following this sad news since my youngest son came into the lounge last night carrying the lap top reading sky news saying Dad you’re not going to believe this. How right he was, I still can’t. I first met Colin and his Dad in 92 when Malcolm Wilson was running the J113 BPU Escort Cosworth on the Granite City as the A car to clear the course. Colin was in the #1 car, a Legacy, Jimmy was in the #5 car, a sierra Cosworth and Alistair was also there in the #7 car, another sierra Cosworth. When I was telling my own boys the story tonight they thought I was special when they learned that I had the opportunity to have met Colin McRae. I went and dug out the old photos and showed them the pictures I had taken from the forest roads out the back of Bennachie in Aberdeenshire…..and it brought a tear to my eye because it reminded me who very special I did feel that day just to be stood there on a Sat morning chatting with Colin and Jimmy McRae. How down to earth and friendly they were. Alistair was too busy else where helping to fix the red and yellow Shell sponsored cossie at the time. Colin is a true legend, a great Scott indeed and he will be very sadly missed by everyone who enjoyed watching him with his full on and courageous driving skills, but what a loss for the McRae family to come to terms with, of course along with the other two families affected in this tragedy. Our deepest thoughts and condolences to them all, especially his dear wife and daughter, who have lost so much in a husband, son, father and brother. Jools and family, Copenhagen When ever we decide to so something appropriate I will be come home for sure and get the Scooby out of storage to participate.
  4. Our condolences to you Gus. We can do many things in this world that we live, and we are making progress against cancer in so many ways, but it still takes so many away before their time and often in sad and almost drawn out circumstances. Some folks may think 68 years is not a bad innings, but when it is your loved one, and epically your Mum….you want them to live forever; then all of a sudden 68 is all too short. Thoughts are with you. More power to Cancer Research and folks like Wilky. Jools-Aberdeenshire.

  6. I spent best part of both days there. John St was a tad more than pretty fast Fee...looked bloody fast to me (wink) Awesome machine off the line….gets up to speed so fast, he has to start braking 20 to 30 feet before all the other cars going into the first corner. Superb car and driving. +/- 80 cars there on the Sunday; great to see motor sport so alive and kicking at club level like this. The time for speciation in now over….and the time for playing is coming real soon! We will have to have some more SIDC support at these events; that will make it 4 scoobys....and one black evo!....amongst plenty of other quick cars in John class; note I said in John's class.....
  7. Great pictures there from everyone. What a great day out. Not bad considering I was only coming to Bucksburn to drop off a few gerry cans. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> One funny bit was Arlene phoning when we were North of Inverness by the side of the road and asking where Sinclair and I were, and to say dinner was nearly ready! “Well I’m close to a place that begins with Inver, but it’s not really Inveruire”…long silence. “So are you heading home soon?”…well….yea indirectly…via John O Groats came the reply! Must go battery is getting low on the mobile….(wink) Great run to Aviemore with Cal and co on the way up. Excellent driving with JohnS up front. Run home from JOG to <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Inverness was just great with tiresequel on my tail. That was the best run I have had for a few years my friend and what an apt name you have…..enough said. Caught up with John & Shaun and then we were four! John and Sarah; must say your classic is one of the best looking motors of the day for me; the rear lights are so cool and the whole car looks just first class
  8. I'll have a set. How do we pay and can someone take them from Kames to Aviemore for me please. I'm in Aberdeenshire.
  9. Poah, You got any more of my Sti7 with the silver PPF 18's, UK 300 lights and pink air splitter in the scoop. Has the ARL plate. Be glad to share a few beer tokens in return for a few copies that I could use just for myself and my two boys. Regards, Jools PS; 4th car on the first page is the very one....
  10. Anyone else...? I see our old meeting point is boarded up these days....
  11. Make sure they are a 3 bolt flange.....RCM for a system that is proven on big BHP cars.
  12. Hey bud, As above; give me a shout at home please. Nothing urgent, but need some advice on the wireless system. Cheers?..
  13. Such sad news for his family and friends, especially at this time of year. Thoughts are very much with those left behind. Very sad indeed
  14. Anyone seen the details yet? Where is it going to cross over the A96 and which roundabout will it tie into? Must be going out between Kingswells and Westhill, so I suspect it must come right past Blackburn, and it could only do that on the west side of Blackburn; due to the Tyrebagger hill, and also the hills between Dyce and Fintry. Interesting stuff! Also seems a bit strange that we spend huge sums of tax payers money doing many high dollar studies, (5 routes were considered I believe) and then the MSP comes along and completely does his own thing should called him in early doors and saved the last two years and all the money doing the studies
  15. Won't make that...I have to go visit JR and Booby for a week and do some xmas shopping DR725, GT35, etc
  16. I would suggest you look at this area real hard. I have for some time considering fitting different suspension to the car, and have researched many options. Like you I was comfortable with what you see and read about the AST?s, however there are upsides and down sides. 911 on SN swears by them (as do many others) but I believe he is sponsored and looked after by PowerStation. Everything we read about the T25, is excellent, but I believe this is perhaps more to do with the milder mods, rather than the actual coilovers and shocks themselves. I am referring to the ARB, ALK, properly set up. The biggest down side I have found out appears to be that no one comes close to Prodrive with regard to initially testing suspension and then having a well proven system that has done literality millions and millions of miles over the last 4 or 5 years on new age cars. OK, some of us had the knocking sounds from the early new age Sti?s, but that was a Subaru issue rather than one created by Prodrive. Before I going making changes I like to know that the changes are tested and proven products, hence me going all the way down to Olly and Matt at RCM, and getting the mapping done by Bob Rawle. If I was doing it all again I would be going to the likes of Andy Forrest as he is much closer, but at the time I knew little of Andy to be honest. Wish I had researched that a lot more at the time I can tell you?.and I say that purely based on logistics, it's not that I am un happy to date with what I have. Any way back to topic, the Prodrive springs on the standard Sti suspension, with the Whiteline 22 mm ARB, ALK, with the geometry set up properly really is one of the best set ups you can have on a new age. It?s a great (and probably the best) comprise for fast road use on our Scottish B roads, and for the odd track day that us guys tend to do. If you intend doing a lot of track days, then changing the suspension, would reap some rewards, perhaps 1.5 to 2 seconds at KH, but it one of the very last upgrades I have been advised to carry out to a new age car. Note I say advised, and I am merely sharing with you guys what I have found out and been told. Regarding 1.5 to 2 secs at KH, in racing speak that?s a huge difference, but for us blasting around on track days it doesn?t make a jot of difference in reality; IHMO you can loose that on one missed gear change, early braking, etc. The one big thing that holds me back slightly for jumping in and changing any suspension is fixing any problems you may have with aftermarket kit. There are a lot of folk out there up and down the UK who are having hassles and issues and my point here is that if you have a problem with an exhaust, or brakes, etc, you can fix it quickly, with not too much exposure to additional costs. You go having hassles with suspension and you have potentially much more exposure to consider, a day in a garage at + 50 quid an hour, car off the road, having to get the Geometry set up again?BTW; not something we can get done up here in Aberdeenshire easily, which is an additional problem for me to deal with. Long story short, after looking at this real hard over the last few months and talking it over with Olly at RCM (again) only yesterday afternoon, I am probably going to spend the money I was going to use on suspension in the engine bay area. I say probably, because I may compete with the car next year...and if I do, I will change suspension for sure. If you have not done the ARB, ALK and had the geometry set up, I would do that first and enjoy the difference. Cal had some video of my car at Alford on the tight little sprint track, and also of Marc?s Sti 8 running standard set up on the same day and you can see quite visibly the difference in the cars as we come through and out of the corners. Here where I am on the handling set up?for now. Prodrive 18" alloys with Goodyear F1 GSD3?s, Prodrive lowering & progressive rate spring kit, Sti front & rear alloy strut braces, Whiteline anti roll bar, solid drop links and anti lift kit, AP Racing 355 mm x 6 pot big brake kit c/w Ferodo DS-2500 pads front/rear, Goodridge brake hose's front & rear, RCM Geometry set up.
  17. What a shock to see this on the news this morning Very sad news indeed and so young at only 34. Real real shame. Thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.
