  1. i was going to say stem seals........

i had an escort years ago and that used to do the blue smoke on start up thing.

but changed the stem seals and it cure it........

just doing the stem seals on a 'bru is going to be a pig with the engine in.........

  2. Err, no. It just happened to be where the link was copied from I would imagine.

    What's happened is:

Phil stood down after 10 years dedicated to the club. It put to the vote and STi_Pretender was voted in as the new chairman. At the same point, empty committee roles were filled to support the running of the club.

Off the back of that, members packs have been expanded and fees reduced. All good from where I'm sitting :)

Well you need to pay to get in the members area is what i ment.

And the info i wanted is in there (or was).

So YES i would've had to pay to find out............

  3. my headgasket(s) have gone on mine. but its not mixing oil and water.

Its leaking pressure from the cylinders in to the coolant system.

But if i turn the boost down and drive like a granny its ok. but as soon as you start to give it some, the water start bubbling over.

Head gaskets can be had from anywhere from 80 pound for the pair upwards depending on what you want. It is possible to do them with the engine in, but most remove it so its a costly job.......

I'm going to do mine myself, when i get space on my drive ( and fixed the head gasket on my galaxy!) plenty of step by step guides how to remove the engine and do the head gaskets on s/net.

    So to sum up!

If you do it your self it will be about £100 for the gaskets, £50 to get the heads skimmed, £40 for a cambelt, plus usual stuff like oil and filter etc, and 2 days off the road.

If you do put the engine, do the clutch (i just changed the drive plate last time for about £60) at the same time cos thats an engine out job as well..........

  4. Things come off impreza's quite easily. Remember its a rally car and needs quick fixes between stages.

I took the engine out of mine once, and that only two 2 hours, and never done one before........

If you handy with the spanners, and have a decent asortment then dismaltling will be no problem.

  5. depends how many miles you've done, and what mod's you have, and how oftern you change your oil....

A standard engine with a few miles on it will be happy with just a semi 10/40w.....

I use a fully synth 5/30w and made 308bhp, but also change it every 2000miles.....

There a lot of conflicting views on oils and which type to use etc.

The oil debate will go on forever, with evryone thinking that they are right......
