  1. I worked offshore for 4 years on rigs and vessels and have seen some weird stuff and places as a consequence ( Shanghai / Korea / Taiwan / Hongkong etc etc). This is what i do for a living after going to uni and doing one of these courses. Offshore life can be really good and really crap depending on what you do and where. It's best suited to young folk but there are many who find that the time off suits them to a tee. I started working for Shell 3 years ago ( onshore in the office) and have really enjoyed it. I still get to travel lots and go offshore occasionally to boost the mods fund . By the way.......mucho jobs at Shell just now !! They are 1000 technical people short Mini-guide to working offshoore
  2. Avoid parcel force like the plague ! The good old post office is very good ! It once cost me only £8 to send a back box i,e feckin' cheap ! Their next day delivery service is excellent too but costs a wee bit more but will ariive before 9 a.m Cal
  3. Folks, Had a few Pm's and people asking, hence - 1) Car is fully back on the road complete with new burble and 40k service complete - mucho chuffed 2) Just back from 3 week trip in Canada hence lack of posting..... Holiday was immense and had to suffer a Canadian Mondeo equivalent for the duration. It had a 3.5 V6 engine but handled like a duck with diahorrea ( Pontiac Grand Am ) Toronto & Montreal were full of Scoobies and also spotted a Lambo Murchielago. Saw an Evo 400 too which made a mental noise and appeared to move like a snail until the turbo kicked in. The lag on that car is mental but when it kicks in it's goodnight vienna ! Saw lots of the new Mustangs which were quite cool. the roads are very maintained but soooooooo straight and boring until you get into the mountains. I can confirm that they were also traffic cops with laser guns all over the joint but never got pulled as I dialled a sensible speed into the cruise control So im summary I'm back on the scene and will be back on the runs after 3 of my 9 points fall off on the 15th of next month Here's some of the things we got up too on the tour ( they were a tad scary on occasion !) Jet boating White water rafting See y'all around guys Cheers Cal p.s lots of you at the Fintray hill climb today

  6. why does lots of folk buy an HKS filter and then punt them ? are these bad for WRX's ? MAF issues etc ? what's the deal as I miss the induction roar of my Honda CTR so I'm considering this route Thanks Cal
  7. Just for clarity................is it a 15.30 kickoff i.e we should arrive at 15.00 or is it a 15.30 get together for 16.00 start Thanks Cal
  8. Also when installing a new exhaust, wipe of any finger prints on the system because they'll be left for ever once the system gets hot. C&C use alcohol to wipe the after they have installed IIRC
  9. At the risk of sounding like an muppet re: fast drivers........ Some people think they are going fast but aren't as fast as they actually perceive themselves... Example - Nailing it on the straights then braking like fury for a corner...........I did a small experiment last time I was out on a SIDC run and barely used my brakes but managed to easily keep up with the driver in front. Of course they're are varying levels of ablity and the Impreza makes you feel like the Stig. Overall pace over a stretch of road is more pleasurable and rewarding than hitting xxx mph ( IMHO) I don't confess to being an expert but I've done around 6 defensive / fast road training sessions. Even with only 30 mins on B-roads with these instructors you'll learn heaps. You'd also be surprised by the amount of fuel you save. The motto is "slow in and fast out" whilst trying not to upset the weight distribution of the car and make a clean exit from the corner.... All in my own opinion though ........... Cal
  10. Quality post John and I fully agree........we can kiss goodbye to our beloved runs unless we collectively tidy up our act.
  11. Thanks for that Johnny - just got it at the last minute !

  17. Wanted ? decat centre pipe with removes the centre cat between the downpipe and resonated 2nd silencer sections. Must fit a bugeye and be in good condition?.. The diameter required is 2.5? ( i.e factory standard size ). Ideally I want a straight through section with no resonators. Thanks Calum

  19. Knocklink The knock link is a visual display module which takes the output of a knock sensor ( piezo microphone ) and displays the signal on the LED scale . This scale is used to display abnormal, high frequency noise as caused by detonation. The Knock sensor is usually a piezo-electric microphone which generates an output signal when large amplitude vibrations are present. This signal is filtered and amplified by the display unit and presented as a bar graph showing the noise level/ level of detonation. This is important as severe detonation will destroy any engine in a matter of seconds, so it is vital to know immediately when detonation occurs. Detonation can be caused by a number of things beyond your control such as poor fuel quality or a sensor failure on the engine, even protracted maximum speed runs can cause a build up of heat which can create unexpected detonation and engine failure. It would also be remiss not to point out that expensive forged pistons are not immune to detonation damage it just takes a few seconds longer! You have been warned, get the KnockLink now and avoid engine detonation. GreerSport is in Kilbirnie - there website ain't up and running yet though
  20. Sounds like a well sorted whip Joe Welcome to the funhouse Cheers Cal
