  1. Thank you for the warm welcome everyone.

@ STImulation, I will try to dig out some pictures of my previous cars, they are in photobucket though and I don't think external linking works anymore :( .

Legend? What for? Spending my hard earned on (mainly suspension & wheels) upgrades? ?

  2. Hello everyone,  after some period of inactivity and being Subaru-less for 4 years, I am now back to the fold with a 2008 Impreza 20th anniversary.

    I've previously owned a 2007 WRX wagon, a 2006 Forester STi and a 2004 Forester STi.

I am looking forward to seeing you in the forthcoming meetings.

  3. GB270 was a good buy new but seeing the 2nd hand prices of them now you must be crazy to spend 14k on a GB270 when you can get a Sti for the same money. You can buy a 10k WRX and spend less than 3k to spec it up to the GB270, why would one pay 14k+ for a GB270?! There are even some for sale for 17k!! These dealers must be living in a dream world! As for looks I prefer the GB270 though, specially wagons are beautiful

Regarding the paint I don't see why the GB270 would have more paint issues as compared with a standard WRX/Sti, as said all cars came off the same production line and speced up by prodrive before the end of this MY.

  4. it's not the woosh, had that on my last impreza with a prodrive exhaust that I'm worried about.

It a high pitched whistle/chirp that's got me slightly concerned.

Can you take an in-car vid?

  5. the man that posted above you cal. I believe he got it from the state's.

FPAN it sounds good got a vid of it on my phone last night but not sure of quality.

Was just wondering what the whistle/chirp was though at 5k. Wondered if it was the sudden extra rush of exhaust gasses when the VVT comes on song as it only does on hard throttle. You can go through 5krpm and it doesn't do it. It's quite load outside the car aswell.

Glad you like it :P. Yes exhaust was imported from the states and cost a small fortune.

Post up the video. Yes that's the beauty of it, not too loud in the car but louder outside.

At high rpm and full throttle you can hear the exhaust gases coming out, that's characteristic of the Genome, sounds like a jet engine  My WRX did it too.

  6. Hi Westtra!

The car is looking mean :P

How do you find the exhaust?

Does it sound like a jet engine when you floor it at 4-5k rpm with full throttle? This is normal  I can't describe the sound but I loved it! Deep and discreet "V8-ish" sound at low revs and waking up when you nail it! Can you post a sound/video clip up?

I miss my car now

  7. A sports cat downpipe can certainly be bought new. Not sure if the standard downpipe are 'sports' cat though?

I replaced my downpipe with the sportscat to help with the air flow etc and improve performance if that's

    what you're after??

    Hi Richie,

What downpipe with sportscat do you have and where did you bu it from?

Do you guys recommend any downpipes with sports cat that are good?

All Hawkeye's retain the OEM downpipe, the PPP does not replace the downpipe as earlier versions did.

Mocomracing, thanks for clarifying this, can I get a downpipe form an '04-'05 Sti though and fit it to my WRX?

Could you source me a prodrive one or would you recommend a 'better' one?

Has anyone used a Perrin, Zerosports or Ingen?

    Cheers

    :driving:

  8. I replaced both my rear shocks 7000miles ago and im beginning to hear a faint knock from the rear offside AGAIN. Coilovers this time for sure!!!

Pushing the car down above the shock absorber it is very stiff but I have a knocking from the front when going over a certain speed bump (in fact it is more like a gap on the road like this ----__----).

How did you guys (or the dealer) diagnose a faulty shock? When I took the car for the 30k km service I told the dealer to check and he said everything was fine.

    Thanks :D

  9. What are the symptoms of the front or rear shocks failing?

My front left one knocks on certain kurbs/bumps when going slowly over it. It has been happening 5k km after fitting prodrive springs. The car seems to be hadnling fine nevertheless.

    Cheers

P.S. I have been hearing different opinions about the reason for this. Powerstation (where I had them fitted) told me it is common and it is the spring coils touching but Prodrive told me it could be either a failing shock or the spring not seated properly on the cap.

  10. Mine doesn't take forever because of the treatment I had done. Many years of blood sweat and tears with cleaner, paint finisher and wax of some description (Zymol being the favourite), I figured there must be an easier way!

It turns out there is :D

A nano film is applied to the paint which protects it for life. It makes the paint harder to chip, and makes water and other oxides, acids, tar etc come off really easily. It is applied professionally and they will even sort your paintwork out if it is old and not at it's best - before the treatment. The treatment itself costs less than a professional wax job, and lasts significantly longer, and makes washing the car take at least 2-4 times less. I don't know about you guys, but a proper wash and wax took me at least 4-8 hours depending on the state of the car. It now takes me a maximum of 2 hours to clean everything (outside).

Well worth the money in my opinion ;)

Your car looks great fpan :) I like the mini Nurburring sticker in particular - not a fan of too many stickers etc on cars - you have kept yours really nice and clean and that little touch just works :) What is really sad is that I recognise it and didn't mistake it for some flakey paint

    Thanks gison :)

The idea about the nano film is interesting for people who don't clean their cars often like me!

Where did you have it applied and do you have to replace it every e.g. 2 years?

In the past it would take me 2 days to wash, clay, polish and wax the car using Autoglym's SRP, EGP and Natty's paste blue wax but I am now using the Jett Werkstatt kit and I can finish all in 1 day with much less effort.

I guess you don't need to wax the film once fitted, just clean?
