  1. Dont bother repacking the struts with new grease it doesnt work, you will pend two hours doing it only for the problem to return a week later. It will also fail an MOT if the wear can be felt so that being the case the car is not fit for purpose and the struts should be changed under the warranty you have.

I don't have this problem (yet) so cannot vouch whether it works or not. I don't think dougieboy would have much to lose by trying the first option of just spraying with WD40 lithium grease though and like I said would only be a temporary measure until he can get funds to get them replaced. Might just stop that annoying knock though.

I know some guys have done this and run them for 6 months or more without the knock returning.

  2. Get new bolts and gasket from your local Subaru dealer, some new exhaust hangers from Halfords, be prepared to cut off the old bolts(angle grinder works well), and have a ground sheet available. Easy DIY job if you don't mind getting down and dirty.

This sounds the exact reason why I'd rather get a fast fit place to do it.

They've got all the bits and pieces to hand if required.

Even at £20 or £30 fitted must be worth saving the hassle?

  3. its the ninja 2 back box, should be picking it up this evening, and im off all day sunday and monday , so will give it a go tomorow or mon , weather depending , will also see if i can get a before and after vid or pic or something,

wish me luck tho, the only other tinkering ive done on motors is fitting an inducion kit to a corsa, and doing the squeeky seat belt fix on the scoob ,

would using the original gasket be ok rather than buying a new one . or is that just crazy talk

    Good luck mate :icon_salut:

I phoned a few local exhaust places today, only one that responded positively was National Tyres so will try them tomorrow morning. Mines is a Prodrive so should be straight forward for these guys I would have thought.

  4. check that that includes the belt tensioner as well as thats the expensive part and also apparently what usually goes rather than the belt (£110 for the tensioner :S)

Yeah did kind of wonder that m8.

I believe they can check the tensioner to see if it's needing replaced or not but wouldn't imagine that's included as standard in the price. For piece of mind I would probably favour buying the belt, pulleys and tensioner from somewhere like Scoobyclinic for about £270 and then get somebody like SW Motors to fit.

    Cambelt Service

  5. out of interest , whats the recommended interval on these ,(mines an my00 uk turbo)

Would imagine they're the same, but mines being an 2003 WRX service book says 5 years or 50K miles.

SW Motors sounds like a good recommendation guys thanks, I'll give Steve a phone.

  6. I'll be coming up for one too but at 90K 2003 WRX :icon_joker:

Last one was done at 45K by Halleys but looking for somewhere in the Edinburgh area anyone can recommend?

I was quoted £385 for a Cambelt Service including vat, parts and labour from Ian Grieve, don't know if this

is a good price or not?

  7. I guess something called impatience got the better of me and didn't fancy having the car sitting outside

with no insurance on it. Just too much faffing about when I just wanted to get out and drive the car lol.

  8. looks like a cracking example :)

arb's reduce the side to side movement of the suspension as i understand it, the thicker the bar the more planted the rear - though this does can it a bit more lively in extreme cornering :icon_joker:

first things first though - in order

1 - drive til you run out of fuel money

2 - become a full member - though you shouldve done that first as it gets you insurance discount from keith michaels!

3 - track down an exhaust, backbox or catback to release the burble

4 - get yourself along to your nearest monthly meet

and of course, grin grin grin :D

    Sounds like excellent advice.

So at least I've completed number 1 then lol.

No 2 to do when I get paid again

No 3 My brother has a Prodrive Backbox he removed from his, don't want anything too loud.

    No 4 <_<

  9. Hope you tried go compare and the likes?

Yes it was gocompare I got it through. But I was pretty annoyed as Liverpool Victoria always came up about £200 cheaper than anywhere else, quoting £330 fully comp. When filling in all the info on Gocompare I stated it didn't have a tracker fitted at all. The when I went to buy the policy luckily I noticed in the details of the policy it had changed to a tracker being fitted. I went back through the procedure again to make sure I hadn't made the mistake originally on Gocomapre and sure enough the Liverpool Victoria policy changed it again to Tracker fitted!!!

When I amended the policy on the Liverpool Victoria webpage to change it to no tracker fitted, it then told me I wouldn't be insured against theft unless a tracker was fitted and activated. Don't know if it's just a general flaw in the program procedure or whether they are at it? Was pretty miffed though as I'd budgeted for getting it at that price :icon_hang:
