  1. I have had similar problems with my 98 sti for a while. So far I have changed the Idle control valve and gaskets and seals, Water temperature sender, Spark plugs and leads, I have also found eight wires so far that have been cut by the bodywork and have been causing short circuits. The last I only found after stripping out the carpet and interior panels. It is still not right. If I drive it gently the the eml comes on when I lift off the throttle. But my idle is pretty much sorted. Next step is to remove the dash to look for more wires.

  2. Looked on net about cleaning as sujested also read to clean and check conections between solenoid and ecu, if you put on a new unit would think wireing mybe? Let you know how i get on. Thanks for replys

Got mine running properly today, changed the ECU temperature sender. Cost £30 from imprort car parts.

  3. I have the same problem with mine, I have tried a second hand idle control valve which didn't solve the problem, I have now fitted a new unit but the problem persists.

  4. Ask him about the accident and check the repair on the passenger side front. I was hit recently whilst overtaking, The other parties insurance repaired my car but like this example it came back without the STI wing badge. looks ok from the photos but does seem very cheap.

  5. I've been told today that Dalton Barracks have open days where you can run your car on the airfield. Maybe something to think about for the summer as an extra meet? Hi ant and welcome to the site! Have I seen you round Didcot then? I drive a white classic STI

  6. When I first got my scoob (MY98 STI) I found the fuel economy to be crap. Since then I have found a few minor faults such as loose hose etc, which once rectified seems to have improved the fuel economy. Maybe worth your while having a good poke around under the bonnet and check everything is tight.

  7. How much of our road tax is actually spent on maintaining the roads ?

Local Authority here is saying that they may have to look cutting services in the next financial year as the Govt. has dramatically cut back on the road funding given to them.

Most of it is spent on maintaining old roads, and building new ones. In Spain mainly.

  8. Really easy to change mate, no special tools needed, two jacks are handy so once you have the wheel off yoú can use the second jack under the lower arm to take the strain off. If you've hit a pothole hard enough to break the link then tracking would be a good idea.

  9. I've had it for a few months and quite like it. The box itself is a hard drive recorder so I can set it to record series so I dont miss programes. The BT vision bit has lots of content which changes every week, including full series of programes. I have recently watched all four series of Lost from start to finish (Over a couple of months!) I kept missing it when it was on TV so it was quite good having all of them. I have also watched series 2 and 3 of The wire, the first series of Generation Kill and Prison break. The films you get for free aren't that good but there is a huge variety of stuff that you can pay to watch, Yesterday I finished work at 5 am so I watched Inglorious basterds for 3.99, Quite handy as Blockbusters doesn't open that early!. Like stewartyboy said each to his own, it depends what you want it to do.

  10. Check the model code on the vin plate under the bonnet. On mine it's GC8E4ED. I think the type R is GR8, but the next letter will tell you the model year. E is MY98, F is MY99. This car is a 97 or 98 judging by the the front bumper. It may have been first registered in 99.

  11. Basically a higher ron fuel can be compressed more before it combusts without a spark. A uk car should be set up to run lower ron fuel without problems but in a Jap car you will find the fuel/air mixture explodes as the piston is on the way up on the compression stroke when lower ron fuel is used.

  12. Without a picture it will be difficult to match to your one. As far as I can tell there are three possible pumps each with a different shaped bottle. This is only what I have found from looking at the ebay listings, maybe someone else will know how to tell the different type for sure. As long as the reservoir bottle is the same shape as yours it maybe worth a try for the price. At worst if it's wrong you could relist it.
