  1. The 04 WR1 has the dccd 6 speed box but other than that the blobeyes with the dccd are MY05 onwards. 05 and 55 registered blobeyes are at the lower ved rate. Prices are going to be around the 11 - 12 k mark ( from a trader). I would personaly advise getting one with a proven warranty unless you are handy with the spanners or know someone who is. They are great cars I loved my 05 blobeye STI to bits. There are a few things to be aware of. Firstly the brakes are properly expensive so check the condition before you commit to a price. Secondly the rear struts and top mounts are flakey so if you hear a noise like the boot is open or the parcel shelf is loose when you test it they will need replacing. Other than that they are fantastic cars (albeit a bit thirsty).
  2. It sounds like it's a dodgy sensor causing a spurious alarm to me. If the car was back running well having cleared the code but not touched the tgv then I reckon it's safe to assume a sensor fault.
  3. Subaru are acutely aware that there have been some pretty serious quality issues starting to appear. They are taking steps to rectify any known issues. If you get a Proven warranty from Subaru they are very good at rectifying problems with minimal fuss IMHO. I've just had the rear shocks and topmounts replaced on my GB270 and I've been assured that the new units are an improved design which Subaru have developed to counter the unusualy large amount of scoobs with this problem.
  4. If you're feeling it through the seat I'd bet my b******s to a barn dance the rear wheels are out of balance or the rear tyres have been knocked out of shape. Usually it's something simple like you've lost a wheel balancing weight or something.
  5. I used to run a MY 05 blobeye STI. Both the rear shocks and top mounts failed within 6 months of each other ( both rplaced under warranty). I replaced the STI with a MY08 GB270 hawkeye (basicaly a WRX with some prodrive bits and a PPP) the rear shocks and top mounts have both failed, so it looks like WRX and STIs are as bad as each other. However I have been assured (by Subaru) that the replacement units are a new improved design and that they will be much better.
  6. Hi and welcome from an ex blob and current hawkeye owner
  7. I know the feeling. The rear shock / topmounts on newage scoobs are atrocious. I'm currently on my 8th replacements on 2 cars over 2 and a half years. I have had proven warranties on both cars, but I've told Subaru if one more shock / top mount fails, I'm going to be paying them a visit with said shock and a large tub of vaseline
  8. the WR1 is counted as a standard car (even though it has the PPP). Make sure you get the tracker resubscribed when you buy it or it wont be covered for theft of or theft from the vehicle.
  9. I've had a few different scoobs over the years. The 2 most recent ones being a blobeye STI and my current GB270. I'd agree with the advice given so far. I use mine as a daily driver and occasionaly cut it loose on a track. So far the only things I've had major issues with are the factory struts and top mounts. I went through 5 sets on the STI in 2 years, and I'm getting the dreaded knock on the 3rd set on the GB270 at the moment. I would strongly advise you to get a good warranty
  10. As far as the warranty company bit goes, you may just need to check the small print. Some Warranty companies take the piss with the exclusion clauses. I've only ever had my scoobs warrantied by Subaru / Proven and they've never tried to shaft me. The only problems I've had have been flaky stock dampers and top mounts, theyve always done the replacements with no arguements.
  11. I would, If you lower the car without the camber adjustable top mounts you will end up having to replace lots of top mounts.
  12. Welcome along. A common problem when uprating turbos and exhausts is that the steering column bushes are too close to hot bits of pipe, they smoke like a goodun and smell like burning wiring. This might be the issue here, but without seeing it first hand I wouldn't be 100% sure.
  13. It sounds like the bit of the cone which the air pipe clamps on to might be blocking the sensor aperture. Personaly I'd forget using the cone and just get a freeflow filter for the stock airbox. The cone filter will end up coating the MAF in oil anyway probably sooner rather than later then you'll run the risk of goosing your engine due to MAF failure.
  14. In the past I've run 2 scoobs as track cars , started with freshly rebuilt engines (EJ20s), ran one close to stock (brake mods only), and the other one stock (with brake mods)with a better exhaust and a BOV (no remap crucialy) as an experiment to see if an exhaust and BOV mod in isolation on an otherwise stock car had any noticeable effect on performance. I agree it wasn't a very scientific test, but the car with the Zorst and the BOV didn't show any really noticeable performance improvement over the stocker. When I stripped them down after about 3000Km of nearly all track driving the BOVd car had more play in the bearings and marks on the rings and barrels and a fair bit more pitting on the piston surfaces than the stocker. I would have had to have been spending a lot more time and effort and money on the experiment to prove 100% the BOV caused the extra wear and tear, and admitdly it could have been purely random and something else caused it. I wasnt trying to prove anything particualrly about the effect on the engine of the BOV, I just thought it was interesting that the BOVd engine was more worn than the stocker.
  15. Try running 2 identical engines in parallel, using the same fuel and oil and under the same conditions, one with a BOV and one with a CBV. Then strip them down and look at the relative wear on bearings and pistons. You'd be amazed how badly screwed the one with the BOV will be in comparison to the one with the CBV
  16. Don't get me started on ******* insurance companies and their low life rip off tactics. I used to have a blobeye STI MY 05, which I unfortunately curbed during the icy weather last December. This resulted in a fault claim. In April this year some dozy cow in a Micra ran into the back of my GB270 at a set of traffic lights, resulting in a non fault claim (all sorted by her insurance, no arguements). I just got my renewal notice from the company who you don't have to posh to be with. They've stripped my no claims back to 3 years (from 9 years) and doubled the premium despite only having one fault claim and protected NCB. I phoned them up and gave their ****ty useless claims department a hairdrying, and they explained that " a claim is a claim is a claim nowdays, there's no distinction anymore". I told them to go forth and multiply and I'd be speaking to my solicitor about it. I spoke to my solicitor, who informs me they are right and I can't win so give up. A quick search on some PCWs hgas got my premium down, but FFS what a bunch of robbing *******s.
  17. If it has the dccd fitted and it's set to locked you will get some evil kicking and banging during slow speed full lock manouvers. "they all do that sir"
  18. Stock STI will have 17 inch gold wheels as standard. The WR1 had 18 inch anthracite wheels, the brakes were the same on the STI and WR1 ( gold brembro callipers front and rear and 326mm (I think) rotors on the fronts. Plus the WR1 has a much nicer (IMHO) front spoiler / splitter arrangement with big driving lamps in it and a silver mesh grille, not to mention the gorgeous Icelle blue paint. I liked the WR1 a lot, the only thing that let it down was the pre 2005 spec centre console and steering wheel.
  19. I was doing an arrive and drive session at Thruxton kart centre today and a load of scoobs turned up, 2 classics a blobeye and an RB320 Hawkeye with a gold numberplate surround. Add that little lot to my GB270 and it was quite a Subaru meet. I wondered if it was anyone from here? if so a belated Hello from me
  20. You didn't say what model it is. If it's a newage the easiest at a glance way to check is look at the brakes and callipers. Wrxs have smaller rotors and red callipers with subaru written on them stis have gold brembro callipers and big rotors. If you open the bonnet youl see a big intercooler with sti stenciled on it and Red crackle paint on the manifold. All this relies on it being a newage and unmodified regarding brakes and engine bits.
  21. Good ,stock, well serviced scoobs are very reliable in my experience. If you buy a stock one with a full history and bills and you'll be laughing.
  22. Around the 800 quid mark if you get them supplied and fitted by a main stealer, much less if you buy them and fit them yourself.
  23. I'd go for saving for an STI. Having owned both an ej20 engined STI ( no PPP) and an EJ25 engined WRX ( GB270 PPP ), I reckon an EJ25 engined STI with PPP would be just the ticket, then you could mod that instead, which would be easier and more fun i reckon.
