First post and looking for words of wisdom from anyone who knows about windscreen/glass matters....
...just picked up the car (06 sti spec D) from autoglass after having the windscreen replaced following a brief meeting with a large stone thrown up by a car last Wednesday. Attempted repair but opted to go for replacement as crack still visible. Anyway on drive home noticed:
(i) windscreen appears slightly lighter than before - difficult to be sure. However glass is different brand (Pilkington 43R-00070 E17 fitted compared with Tempalex 43R-00020 E6 in side glass). Didn't think to check details on original windscreen before fitting and anyway, have no ideas what these numbers mean....
(ii) a very noticeable horizontal optical defect (i.e. a visible 'ripple') in the glass on the drier's side, about one third up from the bottom and about 7-8 inches long.
(iii) spec D has the vin etched in all glass, autoglass have etched the reg no rather than vin on the new windscreen?
Anyone able to tell me what the spec of the OEM spec D windscreen is (i.e. is the pilkington correct) and whether defects like the one described are acceptable (i.e. whether I like it or not they may refuse to rectify it as it si within tolerance). Also, likely to be any problem (insurance / future sale etc...) with the etching differing across all windows.
Any advice much appreciated!!
