  1. Nice trip away at the weekend to Peebles. Just wondering if anyone knows if it is compulsary to own a Scooby in your adult life in the town.....saw loads. Some nice classic and some nice Newage examples alike. Even got half a wave from guy in a classic. V-power cheaper in the town too, just the pump I went to let the stuff pi....pour out before the auto click off ! Okay area for the day/weekend out for a run if in to the scenery bit.
  2. Was fillin my mothers car up with petrol (1.2 Clio), and at the garage was a young lad (18ish) in a modded corsa. As we both stood at the pumps I noted to him that his car was looking good (some credit due as it was properly done and not the ram raided halfords with the sticky tape on look) and looks like he'd spent a lot of time etc on it. He said "aye, a've spent loads on it....bla bla...and it'd beat yours no problem mister!" I gave a short quiet laugh and said, "I'm a little old to be racing on roads, but I'm quite sure you wouldn't beat mine". He scoffed, "it's only a 1.2 Clio mister". Me - "Nope, this isn't mine, mine is 200metres up the road there and just round the corner, the black WRX, you might have just passed (I smiles )". Aye, I dud see that wan, eh, nice car, eh, aye". At which point the head goes down and he toddles off to pay for his fuel ! Bless im
  3. I went with Gary at Keith Michaels when I renewed, way better quote than anyone else. Haggle a little too, might get a little off still.
  4. Ah don't worry, cheered me up just a little before having to enter the DFS showroom ! Next time. Oh aye, and cheers, I have now managed to persuade my wife that I have a bigger say in her next car, as she is now driving mine a lot more,........there is a but though ! Due to her liking the decals on your car she says the deal is that I get similar on mine....a black car....and the decal colour....yip....PINK ! Eh, nope, not my thing !!
  5. First time I think I might have seen one of the folks on here. Top of London Road (opposite DFS) on Saturday around 1pm, you had the "cool" shades on (only 5 minutes it wasn't raining!). Blue car fully rally stickered up, thing that gave it away might have been your name on the side window (didn't catch it fully but reckon it was close to your name on here!) ? I was sitting at the lights on your right hand side as you drove through, you looked like you were concentrating hard taking the 4degree curve to notice me - either that or getting excited at getting on to the M74 ??
  6. Had the same cautious issue too, having seen all the pics with the orange removed decided to go for it. I left loads of time so could get it done best I could. I went with the hair dryer method for heat, slower, but the oven way just doesn't seem best idea to me with all the rubber and plastic parts on it.
  7. Not quite a mod...but new headlight to replace the not so good one. Not that bad just not up to the standard of the second one ! Got a list of things to do, but new house on the horizon and the good lady would boot my b*#s (not litterly of course) if I spent the kinda money next needed ! Sports cat downpipe & remap, lowering springs, ARB & droplinks and 18s...eh, that's all !!
  8. Well, car now de-tango'ed. First headlight...nightmare. Second headlight...half the time and a lot less mistakes. After what seemed like ages, loads of swearing and a few cuts to the hand, looks much better. Just the ewather to find out if it's going to leak : Also spent time cleaning the car up last weekend, just an excuse to try out some nice new BF midnight sun wax, and other products, that received for Xmas - 1 mile down the road and the car was filthy again - oh well it is January after all. ....and while the car was off the road ,got some caliper paint too (white Subaru lettering is tough to do...yes I know the "B" isn't perfect!!).
  9. Reckon I'll still do it, does help out the front a lot (no orange anywhere else on my car!!). Maybe the sales guy just has to say that so there's no come back at all from disgruntled customers who don't seal the unit back up properly. Sure I also read somewhere that someone got a Subaru dealer to do it for them when buying their car, must be okay then. Reheat and then a little mastic should easily be sufficient.
  10. Over next few days plan on taking the car off the road to try out a few of the new cleaning products, and also decided at the same time the orange tint in the headlights has got to go too - aka detango'ing. Read a few threads about how to do it, think it's something I could manage (might regret saying that!). Thing is when I ordered the PIAA indicator bulbs the guy said they were really only for the rear lights as the front headlight is sealed...this I know....but he "strongly" advised against opening the headlight unit up. Just wondering if anyone that has done this before has had any problems after resealing (newage) ??
  11. That's lurvley looking all detailed up like that - nice car too. Shame the roads are so dirty just now, but just shows you what your car looks like underneath the muck, incentive enough to keep it in top shape. If only cars came out the dealers looking like that !
  12. So it does say 98 RON on the fuel filler flap ! I need to start reading instructions ! Just as well I use v-power anyway !!
  13. Un-mapped normal UL should be okay, mapped it'll tie in with e.g. v-power, for better all round result. Personally I always use Shell v-power (unless light comes on and no Shell station about) and not remapped. 99RON, better performance, allegedly bit better fuel economy and cause it is meant to be better/cleaner for the engine on the whole. You've got a couple to choose from in Hamilton and think they are reasonable prices (as far as current prices go anyway!!! ) . Watch out for the v-power days that kick about (v-power at price of normal UL). Think the Tesco 99RON is thought of as good too.
  14. Welcome. Same area as myself (just outside). Get my v-power in Hamilton just now so might see u out and about. Have same colour with STi spoiler, I have the mesh grill on front which might help u recognise me - give a wave or a flash (not the rude one - the car lights one !)
  15. Looks good, must've just got a wash recently nothing on the roads is that clean just now ! They 18's or 19's, sit nicely on the car, perhaps a lowering too ?
  16. It isn't just the classics that are being spoken of as a neg/chav chariot....I drive a newage for example !
  17. Normally just read but don't reply to these topics, but when it happens to you too then you tend to speak up. Have very little in the way of "challenges" must admit but the one recent strange attempt at someone trying to show off (I think) was from another Subaru driver! There's me minding my own business toddling along the dual carriage way behind traffic when I see in my mirror a slightly beaten up Subaru with a youngster hanging over the wheel. Suddenly right on my bumper, swings in to the left hand lane, undertakes me (so I slow down a little wondering what ejit move is coming next), sits on the bumper of the car everyones overtaking, then dives back in to the right hand lane in front of me (no signals or nothin!!). Not sure if he thought being a fellow Subaru owner I'd be impressed but eh, NAW, I wasn't and I doubt anyone else on the road was either. After overtaking the slower car he pulls back in to the left lane, gets stuck behind another slower driver only to come off the dual carriage way 1/2 mile down the road. I've had people asking why I have a ned/chavs car, gets me quite annoyed, and they're generally the ones that haven't seen it. Get more compliments though from people who've seen it (think cause it's always shiny) or appreciate cars. Not much you can say really to the negative comments as it's the kind of car that could be driven by an 18 year old as likely an 80 year old. It's an affordable performance car and unfortunately some people will do stupid things with that kinda power under the right foot. Time and a place for using that power and couldn't agree more that a 30 zone is most definitely not the place ! Quite right COLZO, get it out your system, I feel better after my above little rant !!
  18. Think every wheel size except the 2004 18" ??
  19. Just like many other things for the car just now (mod bug caught!!) been considering a set of wheels. 2004 WRX. Has to be 18's. Looking at the info the bit I know I need to get is that tyres are 225/40/18, Stud diameter is 100 (on 2005> changes to 114) and Studs 5. What then isn't clear is the Rim Width (which is either 7.5J or 8J) and Offset (which is either 53 or 48) ?? Does it matter ? Cheers.
  20. Basically went through same dilemma last year...and it was a Type-R I went from. Totally different car to drive - I've always wanted a Subaru and that's why i changed...the Type-R in the winter/wet was always a "cautious" drive, much more fun in the summer. Besides, when my wife drove the Type-R seemed to go through front tyres a lot, the 1st gear wheel spin always got her ! For me, I had a little bit more cash, and went for a WRX with a years warranty and low mileage rather than an older STi and/or higher mileage - the Blobeye look appealed to me more too. Over the last year I've spent money on bits and bobs which in some ways suppose make it look STi'ey. False economy in the long run but didn't want to borrow anything extra at the time to get an STi. For your budget guess your looking at a 2004 WRX or 2002 STi - average miles. You might find a little better if you look long enough, plus it's not a great time for people/garages selling cars so deals to be done. Decide what's important to you - power / look / age / mileage / etc and that'll give you an idea what you start looking for. Good look with the sale/search - the smile will appear long before you get out the car - WRX or STi if you've never been in one !
  21. I recently needed to replace the OEM discs and OEM pads on my blob WRX too. Called Alyn at ASPerformance and talked over a few options - ended up with standard OEM discs and Pagid4-2-1's. He said that the Pagid and Ferrodo would give very similar results and just came down to choice - just felt like giving Pagid's a go. Notice a difference in stopping ability after bedding in, slightly sqeal when braking on reverse but no big deal.
  22. Do a search on cal's piece on upgrades, having read up on it myself (also have blobeye wrx) he follows a good line of power upgrades. Read a few threads of people that notice a difference from adding just even an exhaust removing the cats (or have a sports cat downpipe) but getting the remap will be the most obvious big improvement - I will be doing so myself once the funds appear. I have a replacement panel filter, was advised this was a good option.
  23. I've seen people refer to Prodrive and Eibach as much the same, even that Eibach make them for Prodrive. Much difference from peoples experience ? 18's are on the "To Do" list, but a little further down unless sniff out a bargain. So sounds like I need to price uprated droplinks and ARB's - see whether cash allows for all to get done at same time. Great advice so far, keep it coming if there's more out there....
  24. Thinking of improving the ride quality and look of my Newage WRX, quickly looking in to it affordable way looks like to go with lowering springs...what begins to confuse me (doesn't take much!) is when other items are mentioned such as droplinks, coilovers.. and so on, which just seem to keep the £pound signs mounting up. Are springs just enough for my day-to-day sensible road use only ? Looking for the knowledgeable/experienced among you to give a little advice so I know what to go and look for and get it done right first time. Makes / fitters / etc. Any before/after pics would also be good. Realise it does lower it (lowering springs name gives it away) but hoping not so much that the multi-storeys / speed bumps catch the front?? or that it becomes an uncomfortable ride on our nice smooth roads ??
  25. Cheers folks, knew someone would know. Safe/slightly more affordable way is the Ninja I think...now, where do I get the cash from.. Think we have a friend in common Cal, moved up to Aberdeen a few months ago, Hoggy ? Sure he's mentioned your car before...although it was to say he'd not get in it !
