  1. :)B):D

And to Fair the standard Steering an Chassis does need a fair tweek ;) Putting some serious power down a standard chassis highlights these issues

I can see them coming out with two cossy versions to optimise the low and high end markets ;)

say Base model £35K 350bhp and an uprated 420bhp £38K

    IMHO IIRC

    Tony

I've 'HEARD' from a dealer it'll 400bhp and the price will begin with a '4'!!

  2. Big thanks to Ian Armstrong @ Conders Subaru in Peterborough.

Gave me a really good deal on my 330S and the service before, during and after the sale have been 1st class-nothing has been too much trouble.

    Would highly recommend them

ps - many will know Ian from Stan Palmers in Carlisle, you will be glad to know he took the good customer service with him down to Conders!

  3. I have this gap just above the rear number plate and am wanting to know what should be there/what I could use to replace it or cover it up... any ideas?

    DSC00262.jpg

    Cheers!

    Is that a Blobeye?

Not 100% but my Hawkeye has a larger plate than standard - if I put a standard plate on it would look the same as yours.

  4. Well long story short no not exactly sorted...

Warranty company directed me to a small independant garage who had the car on Tuesday. They phoned me mid afternoon and said we've checked everything over and can't find anything worng all looks fine to us ;)

Hmm me thinks - so I speak to warranty company again and they suggest booking the car into a main line Subaru dealer to have it looked at "properly". Car went in on Wednesday and they kept it Wed and Thur. They call me back Thursday afternoon and say we have run every check possible including checks for potential failure of the head gasket and everything has come back negative - car should be fine as far as they are concerned.

So I collected the car last night and took it out for a 100+ mile drive over a couple of hours finishing up in Southend of all places. Temp gauge hadn't budged the whole journey so I was thinking perhaps someone's knocked something and sorted it without realising it. As I'm going over the speed humps down the seafront I notice the temp gauge jump up as I pull away from each hump and then drop down again fairly quickly - once I was on the move again it went back to the middle and stayed there. Got home and sat on the drive revving the engine and themp gauge rose to 3/4 and just sat there.

General concensus opinion has been that either the Thermostat is sticking or there's a block in the coolant system. So I've now ordered a Zero/Sports Thermostat and have the car booked in to change it over and do a total drain and refill on the coolant system to remove any airblocks.

Fingers crossed that will solve the problem :)

    Keep us updated fella.

The worrying thing about the quote above is that the warranty company sent you to an independant garage - but after this they sent you to a Subaru garage for a 'proper' look?

    What's that all about?

  5. Had my Green Panel Filter in my 56 STI without any problems for 2 yrs now.

Due it's 2nd clean and oil anytime now and noth worried in any way.

There's a lot of scaremongering going around with regard to the filters that need oiling. Oiling is fine, it's needed as part of the filtration process - just don't OVER oil it. It's easy to clean and just blot any excess oil up before fitting back into your car.

    B)

  6. Your 12-year warranty is only good if you pay £120 a year for Subaru to inspect

Plus anything they use under seal ECT.

So 12 x £120 is £1440 you can get a lot of paint done for that.

I get the necessary stamp for free when i get it serviced at my local Subaru dealer - obviously different if you don't use a main dealer.

  7. Does anyone have any thoughts on brake pads then? I'm keeping the standard discs as they are still in good condition. I only use the car on the road so full on track pads are not needed.

I did see some pads resonably priced, Black Diamond. I'm a bit sceptical, does anyone have experience of these?

or can anyone recommend pads for road use?

    Thanks

Not tried them myself but heard good things about the Ferrodo DS2500's.

  8. What did the garage do then mate? adjust camber and toe as well as wheel alignment?

Would prefer to stay local TBH mate, but if a garage comes with a good reference then i'm prepared to travel.

He'll adjust whatever he can / you want.

I had my Camber & Toe both adjusted and it really makes a difference to the feel of the car.

  9. Thats what i'm thinking mate. The current front tyres have been on the car over a year so they've done well. And i don't really want to effectively waste the good rears!

Can anyone tell me a good place to get the alignment checked in the bedfordshire area?

and what is the difference between an alignment check and a geometry check please?

    Thanks

I may be corrected on this but i thought they were one and the same.

Hhmmmm,Bedfordshire!!?? Not sure to be honest.

How far are you from Epping in Essex (just off M11) - got mine done yesterday by Zak at Mocom and am really pleased with it.

  10. Think i need to clarify my OP.

I have never, and would never put different tyre types front to rear. If i go the cheaper option of replacing the 2 worn tyres only, then i would be staying with RE070's. Thus keeping all 4 the same! At the same time of fitting the new ones, the current rear tyres (which are only 4 months old! and have 7mm of tread still) will go on the front. So that the new tyres go on the back. An alignment check is something i also get done at the same time :D

    Thats the cheaper option.

    Or...

I'm thinking about changing all 4 tyres, so was asking opinions of different types on the market. I really like Conti sportcontact 2's had these tyres on many cars, even used them round the Nurburgring, and think there great.

I have tried yokohama AVS sports, thought they were rubbish, and Falkens (not too bad). I'm leaning toward Toyo or Eagle F1's but have no experience of either.

As for brakes, i need pads all round! The disks are in good condition and won't need replacing though.

So, Pads? Any suggestions that don't break the bank? and also will/should i be changing the fluid?

If you're happy with the Bridgestone's, which you seem to be, then i'd stick with them and get 2 new ones. It'd be a shame to waste the 7mm you have left on the good ones!

Spend the money saved on a GOOD 4-wheel alignment and some decent pads. ;)

  11. Sorry to hear of this fella.

    It totally exasperates me.

I too park in a different time zone to where i'm going, purely to stay away from the feckwits that insist on doing these things.9 times out of 10 some tw@t has parked next to me on my return.

I really just don't get it at all :o

  12. OH GOOD GOD!!!

all i did was post some remarks about my views on Driving standards of 85% of the general public i encounter. and WHAT have i started!! :rotfl::rotfl:

I am trying to breathe!!! but finding it difficult with my mouth sucking the hind tit of a fat sow from some of the remarks here!!! iM PLEASED i am not the only one that has these kinds of views, its time for the Licencing rules to be changed.

Now as for Legal Eagles remarks.

If you want to drive around like a slow ass pondering old goat, then please move to jersey and drive there. The speed limits are NOT a target, they are a reccomended speed limit. That does not mean everyone else wants to pussyfart around behind you in your CITYROVER!!

To be honest the statement you have made was obviously going to cause people to react, and that it has!

How many accidents have i responded to when i was a police officer where some dithering tit has held up a queue of traffic because they are scared to go over 25mph for fear of bursting into a ball of flame!!

I am not saying that you should drive faster than you are happy with, but it is good road sense and good manners to pull over and allow faster traffic through. Im sure you live nowhere near london as if you drive like you state there, you will recieve a ticket for IMPEDING THE FLOW.

To the rest of you lot, you all have some good points that have been a welcome addition to my Rant!!

OVER AND OUT CHARLIE DELTA 5

It's always a very emotive point this and i can guarantee will always get a reaction. The standard of driving on the roads today is shocking. This is getting worse and will get worse still due to the amount of people on the road increasing and the increasing amount of foreigners (bet that starts another debate :rotfl: ).

  13. Ok firstly Phil and Wimpy for getting it all set up etc and the lovely tea Phil made :rotfl:

Now id also like to thank Tim from Envy Valeting. I was down to go but with my Dad being very ill it was going to be very difficult. Tim took up the reigns and prepared the car and drove it up to the Nec. I ll let you read the link on what he did but id just like to say, i drove it home from the Nec last night and the roads really were apalling, i have just literally sprayed a hose at the car and all the grime has fallen straight off. I really am impressed at the products he used. If you have never had a detailing done, do it you will be amazed especially when it all just falls off like it did.

    Cheers Tim now the link

That's a cracking car fella :rotfl:

  14. i got done with the road angel on, bloody thing never went off.

i asked the police to go around the front of the car and fire the laser at the dam thing........nothing.

thought it was a fault so went mad at blackspot sent in and no fault found.

was told later it might not work with a UV windscreen?? as the mum and dad in law have a autopayer thing on the tolls when driving through france and spain but would not work on there bmw as could not read signal through windscreen had to hold it out the window to get it to read!!!

never trusted it again and it has been sitting in a drawer in the garage.

Hi mate, what were you driving when it never went off?

I've had it go off in one of my previous cars with a heated screen before but so far not on my Impreza - i read somewhere that using a tv remote should set it off.Not sure if this is b0ll0x though as never tried it.

  15. And breath Emoe :rotfl:

Again,as most have said already,i agree with all you've said.

The 2 other things that REALLY p!ss me off are people using mobiles while driving and people with foglights on,particularly on a nice sunny day gggrrrrrrrr :rotfl:

    Legal Eagle.........

Regarding the speed limit point - were we not taught to drive so as not to 'hold up traffic'?

I almost failed my test for doing 40mph in a National Speed Limit zone - and i would of done if there was any traffic behind me!

  16. The reason I ask is that i've asked half a dozen times about a part ex value on mine against a PPP Hawkeye, an RB320 and a MY08 STI and have heard nothing back at all, despite talking to them on the phone, in person and sending a rather detailed email.

I've always used this particular garage, Slipend Luton, and have found them very useful but I won't be using them again now as I find this lack of service shocking! Is this how companies who are on the brink behave? Madness!

    David

Exactly the same here mate. I emailed Paul at Slipend on 3 seperate occasions about finding me an RB320 with me part exchanging mine.Didn't get any response - just pure ignorance, even if they're not interesterd they should have the decency to say so.

Needless to say i won't be giving them my custom at any time in the future!

  17. Hey fellow scoobians my name is Jam and I really want to know what tyre pressures I should be running on my UK300 it's on 18" OZ Prodrive wheels and middle market Avon rubber. I've tried lower psi (around 25) and got loads of grip and control in corners but the side walls looked like they would wear excessively due to the slight bulge caused by the low pressure, conversely i've tried higher psi (around 32+) this appears to give less grip on harsh cornering but may have improved mpg/tyre wear? maybe.

Anyway as you can see I dont really know what I'm talking about, I used to have a 206 and this loved 28psi rear and 32psi front, being front engine and drive so the increased pressure at the front increased response, wear and mpg and the rear lower pressure gave a great "let off over-steer"

would a scoobie be different being 4x4 or does the front end require more psi to hold the weight of the engine? surely the rear diff/axle/petrol tank etc weigh in around the same as the engine? has anyone ever had their scoobie weighed in on each wheel to see the distribution percent? I drove the current legacy which apparently has 25% weight split on each wheel(and it was sweet).

I know types of tyre give many different results so does pressure/brand make a big difference?

Also wheels, I know bigger rims such as 18's give better high end speed and lower acceleration, so i was thinking of picking up some cheap subaru wheels of ebay as impreza and legacy wheels should fit, but I have got the Prodrive disc upgrade to 330mm so i can only drop to have 17"s so maybe a cheap set of track/testing purposes would work well?

Anyways thanks for reading my post, i'm new on here and this is my 1st post so Howdy all.

    Jam

    Howdo,

You will get LOTS of conflicting advice on this,it's basically what fit's you best.But........

I'd scrap the idea of having anything near 25psi, the sidewalls will be buggered fairly quickly at that rate, even if they are stiffer than most.

I have my 225/40/18's wrapped in Yokohama Parada's and have mine currently at 35psi front and 33 rear.I've tried them at 32psi all round and even 36f 34r but have settled on the above as they just 'feel' better.

Like i say,it's what's good for you.You can ask 20 different people and you may get 20 different combinations!
