frank c Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 My mate thinks he's got an oil leak coming from the crank seal and is wondering why the data book says 2.5hrs for a timing belt but 5.3hrs for a front crank seal. What's the score guys ? and what's involved ? cheers
WUZ Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 You sure its the front Crank Seal that they have quoted the time for and not the rear one? Russell
frank c Posted May 13, 2007 Author Posted May 13, 2007 Right Russell, he's just had a look. Front crank seal 6.8hrs Rear 5.4hrs Timimg belt 2.2hrs. Seems like quite a big job going by the Data book times. How can that be ? What's usually involved and how long for the Fornt crank seal Russell ? Cheers
col666 Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 I am no mechanic but I got a front crank seal changed and a new timing belt fitted a couple of years ago for under £200. 7hrs?! somebody is having a laugh!
frank c Posted May 13, 2007 Author Posted May 13, 2007 That's why my mates a little confused Col, he's a mechanic but he can't understand the times given by the Data book at his work. He thought it would have been more straight forward but the times suggest otherwise..[:S]
frank c Posted May 14, 2007 Author Posted May 14, 2007 Looks like he'll just need to bite the bullet and start stripping it down and see what's involved while he's doing it.
WUZ Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 Changing the front Crank Oil seal is nly an extra hour (at most) on top of timing belt change time! Russell
frank c Posted May 14, 2007 Author Posted May 14, 2007 Thanks again Russell, always there when i need some advice.. [Y] Cheers
