karps Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Duno if anyone is aware of this, but I thought it was worth posting. Taken from another forum Theres a guy doing a scam at the moment on UK car forums. He posts up saying he has a garage full of car parts to shift, all very rare, desirable stuff. and at great prices. Only accepts Paypal and if anyone wants to collect he goes a bit quiet on them. Usually claims to be rebuilding a V8 Landrover but whatever the forum is (Opel Manta, Mk1 Astra, Ford Escort) he's got piles of stuff for them from an old project. Needless to say people get excited, pay him hoards of cash by Paypal and then he disappears... Examples of him in action, from the beginning of the year - http://www.escortevolution.co.uk/forums/in...showtopic=74748 http://www.mantaclub.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=11186 http://www.mk1oc.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5219 He took the Escort guys for well over a grand before he was busted. Please keep it in mind that forums are no more trustworthy than the local paper and probably far less safe than eBay. Be wary out there. If it seems to good to be true it probably is and if someone won't play ball with cash on collection then run a mile.
cullenmin Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Good point, it is easy to become very trustworthy in the close community we have on Scottish Scoobies and it wouldnt take much for a newbie (well, a fraudster) to get a scam! I'm going to be more wary from now on! Rich
jcscoob Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 [] Holy cow, good heads up[y] Have you posted this in general ? (still reading[^o)])
