prodrive brake problem

I have a 04 WRX PPP with prodrive brake upgrade. When I got it done the brakes were really sounding like they were metal to metal.  I told the garage and the said this was normal.  I have done 3000 miles on these brakes, the noise is getting worse and there are heat rings on the discs.  they are now saying that the breaks may be faulty but not covered under warranty.  My question is this.... are these brakes meant to sound like metal to metal and if so can i put a softer pad in to reduce the disc wear.  I also have the old brake gear calipers etc if they are any use to anyone.
